I would reply to whoever replied to your last letter and perhaps send a copy to Ocean as well as a courtesy.
Thanks again, I will let everyone know how I get on. Regards

Hi folks, sorry if this is not the right place to put this - I'm fairly new to this and looking for some PPI advice with Barclays.

I took out four loans with Barclays in 2004 in an attempt to dig myself out of a rather large hole.

I completed the forms online and the insurance protection as far as I can note was pre ticked, and I therefore went ahead with the agreements.

At no point did anyone contact me to verbally discuss the PPI I was taking out and if I am perfectly honest I had no idea what it was at the time as I was only 19.

I am going to attempt to put in a claim for some form of refund but am struggling with what to say - the template letters are fab on here but don't seem to have this scenario on there.

If anyone could give some advice as to how to word the claim it would be very much appreciated!!!!!

Thanks in advance and here's hoping you can help!

  • Does anyone have any experience of reclaiming PPI from Northern Rock? I've sent my letter off, I'm certain it's arrived too as they tried to call me a couple of days after it was posted! I'm mainly curious to know how long they are now likely to take to come back to me in writing?

    Cheers!

Hi, just write a letter from the template on here..

Just take a look at the link here and see what you can add and delete from the letter that you send. There is also a template letter on there too but sometimes it can be better to make your own up from this.

You then write to the firm that actually made the sale of the PPI to you if this is different from the lender and don't forget to send this recorded delivery so you always a proof and dates etc.

After that you have to give them 8 weeks for a full and final response. In this time it is usual to get a response of "sorry we sold this to you fairly" but you then respond to this and reiterate your complaint again. The next time they write they either give you a final response which you would need in order to take this complaint to the FOS or offer to settle.

    Good luck

I hope you sent it recorded delivery as you then always have a proof.

Also you have to give the business 8 weeks for a full anf FINAL response although they usually write to you first and give you the chance to furterh write back.

I would not make any conversation with them by telephone as they could try to twist what you say and use it against you. Writing is always better and posting recorded delivery too and keeping a copy for yourself is always wise.

If you type HALIFAX into the search box at the top "search this thread" then you will see all the halifax posts on here. This is actually a new thread so maybe better to do this on the part two bit and you can get to this by going to the first page of this one and clicking reclaiming discussion part 11. Also might be better to go to the success and failure thread and do the same.

Don't be nervous at taking on the big banks..plenty on here do and win..;)

Hi Marshallka - thanks for responding. I haven't sent the first letter recorded, no. If any further letters are required though I will do with those. I deliberately didn't answer the phone when I realised where the call was coming from - the only people I could think of with that dialling code were NR and I am certainly not speaking with them about it on the phone!

I realise about the 8 weeks - I was more wondering whether anyone had any previous experience of how long they actually take to come back on the first letter?

  • Well done on your success. Did you end up taking BH to court?

    Evening Robbie,

Thanks for your comments. No I didn't take BH to court went thru FOS. Good luck with your complaint with Welcome. I've had 2 loans with them, the third one is still running. The adjudicator has upheld both my loans, 2004 and 2007 which is still current. The loan for 2006 was paid off but was packaged thru Portfield Financial Services, so I now have to make a complaint to them. It's taken me 12 months to get this far. Now waiting to hear what Welcome says, if it's a rejection then the decision will have to go to the ombudsman.

Keep the forum posted as we want to know how you get on. Fingers crossed for you.
  • Hello > I am having a similar problem with my bank, First Direct, claiming that my claim is over the six year period, therefore refusing a refund. I quote their letter; "The loan account you refer to was opened on 24 April 2002 and therefore falls outside of the time period set out in the legislation".

However, the Money Savings Expert has this information; "If your policy started over six years ago and you are either still using it, or it ended within the last six years: Reclaim and ask your lender for a copy of the paperwork if you no longer have it. Your chances of success may be reduced if you have been aware of the misselling for some time, you have already complained or your account is very old." I have got the paperwork that I request the bank to send me.

Could someone please clarify this for me as I had no idea that this PPI was optional until a few weeks ago when I started seeing adverts on TV offering to help people claim refunds for PPI wrongly sold, I was led to believe that the PPI was part of the loan with no mention that it was optional.
