    Hi Di,

Sorry to hear about your hubby's situation, I too am in a similar situation, about to retire early due to ill health. As Marshallka says, these things happen for a reason and I am glad to be retiring early, I can relax without all the added unnecessary stress and look for part time work that I can control the stress factor of

Just to let you know, my wife's family are from your neck of the woods. Take care.

    Hi there hunni

I wish you all the best and hope you get well real soon.:A

    Hi di,

Thanks for your prompt and supportive reply. Actually, my wife's aunties live in Bassaleg? Newport, Gwent.

Actually, I had angina last December, in addition to few other aches and pains, that prompted the occupational health physician to recommend early retirement. I am keeping fit in the gym to help improve and maintain my cardio vascular system :D

I have typed the second letter to my bank and will post it later. Take care. Cheers.

    Hi Marshallka
    Yes thanks hun, getting there.;)
And yep I believe these things happen for a reason, a fresh start now :T , time to look forward and leave the bad year behind.;)

    Thanks hunni. x:A

Not heard a thing yet from any of them at the FOS though.....
I emailed the adjudicator yesterday twice, once to still argue:o and then again when I had sussed the redress's. I have not had a reply to either not even the acceptance so I am none the wiser if he has got this or not. That is the maddening thing here. Maybe we would be better writing... .

Wow, Newport is just down the road from me and that's where my hubby used to work.:D

Angina, bless you, my father has that and its not nice is it ?, hope the condition improves.;) Your doing the right thing by going to the Gym, unfortunately my father is oxygen dependent due to a number of respiratory problems and has someone coming to the house to help him exercise as they say its essential to the condition.
    Well done you.;)

Also the best of luck with your claims, I intend to get back later to help out here, as poor Marshallka bless her - I have left her to it....:o , but she is such a lovely understanding person, and has a lot to deal with on her plate too, so I will get back here later to help where I can.;)

Need to pop out for a little while shortly, but please feel free to chat anytime, cheers and you take care.xx:A

Marshallka I was thinking the same as you, writing a letter maybe a quicker method the way its going, and they should be dealing with yours now they are actually on the case.

Thank you for your helpful reply. What happened with your other complaint? First Direct is the online banking branch of HSBC, I would therefore presume that they are a member of the General Insurance Standards Council, I shall however contact the FOS helpline to ask them.

It would be very helpful if you don't mind sharing what you wrote to the Ombudsman when you approached them for help, I should appreciate it very much.
I first made my complaint to the co-op and then after receiving two letters, one being the final response I then took the complaint to the FOS. I wrote on the form of the FOS that the sales of the PPI were actually made compulsory and not optional. We had no idea that this did not have to be taken etc...

Also if yours was a single premium did you know that there was interest payable on this for the full term of the loan... etc..

If you are making your own complaint just take a look at the link here and see what you can add and delete from the letter that you send. There is also a template letter on there too but sometimes it can be better to make your own up from this.

You then write to the firm that actually made the sale of the PPI to you if this is different from the lender and don't forget to send this recorded delivery so you always a proof and dates etc.

After that you have to give them 8 weeks for a full and final response. In this time it is usual to get a response of "sorry we sold this to you fairly" but you then respond to this and reiterate your complaint again. The next time they write they either give you a final response which you would need in order to take this complaint to the FOS or offer to settle.

Hi, I have just emailed the adjudicator again and this is the reply I got so fingers crossed this could be before christmas... ...

    Dear Mrs M

I have forwarded your settlement form to the Co-op yesterday. It has told me it will arrange the redress for all 3 loans. Please allow four weeks (it will hopefully be sooner) and if you do not hear anything please revert back to me.

    Yours sincerely
  • Can anyone help me please with trying to reclaim my PPI charges from Barclayloan?

I've been trawling through the forums for a while now but not found anything similar to my case which has had the outcome posted.

I took out a loan in September 2002 for £1500. I was working part time on irregular shifts at a supermarket at the time. I wanted the loan for a car. It was a long time ago but I don't remember being given an option to choose whether to have the PPI or not. It says in my T&C that "if the cash loan, premium loan or Barclayloan protection is ended then the whole agreement will end. You may then make a new loan application for any outstanding balance and for any further money you require". Which gives the impression that if I did not take the PPI cover out I would not be able to have the loan.

    The figures are as follows:

    APR 20.9%

    Amount of loan
    Cash Loan £1500
    Premium Loan £381.95

    Total charge for credit
    Cash Loan £845
    Premium Loan £215.05

    Total amount payable
    Cash Loan £2345.40
    Premium Loan £597

    Monthly repayments
    Cash Loan £39.09
    Premium Loan £9.95
    = £49.04

    Number of repayments
    60

I have now paid off the loan but would like to claim back this PPI for the following reasons:

I do not believe I should have been sold the policy when I was only working part time as a)I do not think the sales advisor asked if I was working part or full time and b)when I lost my part time job I went to the bank to claim and they said I could only claim if I had been in a full time job for over a year

I have only ever had one full time job in my life, which I got midway through my loan, and am a full time student now anyway. There was no question of me saying I worked full time when I worked part time, so this should have been checked.

I rang up to cancel the insurance and was told I couldn't.

So I have paid almost double the original loan and am quite furious.

Any ideas what my next step is and who do I need to send the first template letter to?

    Thanks.

OK got a reply from Barclays and just wondering what I should do next. They have sent me a letter saying that they are looking into my concerns and will update me no later than 19th December and want me to complete the enclosed questionnaire. The questionnaire is titled 'PPI Complaint Standard Customer Questionnaire', which leads me to believe they've printed a lot of these off!

Should I complete the questionnaire or send the next of Martin's template letters? Or do both?

    Thanks

    Hi marshallka,

Thank you for your helpful reply and the link. I am using the templates provided, filling the details that apply to me. I am now sending First Direct the second stage letter today. I shall keep you all posted.

I also noticed that I am paying PPI on my credit cards, however, I shall tackle that once my First Direct issue is satisfactorily sorted.

Cheers. Take care and good luck with your situation.

A lot of people are getting these now useless questionaires. I would just send back another letter reiterating your complaint and also state that the quetionnaire is of little relevance to you or them now as you already have the loan and PPI and if it was asked at the time of the sale then fair enough. Just fill it in if you like but I find it really cheeky of them to ask these questions after giving out the loans already.
