Hi Gang today just got better and better ,just as I was going out to catch the bus, the breast care nurse rang and got me an appointment to see the prothesis lady on the 21st November so with luck I shall have a bosom for Christmas .I had already bought my Christmas day outfit so I will hopefully look the bees knees on the big day .I had a great day with my pal and bought some Christmas pressies and we had a lovely lunch and then went to the cinema.Saw EagleEye ,very good a bit james Bondish but quite good fun. Then afterwards had a nice coffee and a Krispy Kreme doughnut as a treat.Caught the bus home and have just got in,a bit cold but had a really nice day.My pal is off with her husband to Vietnam on Saturday for a month. They are both keen travellers and like to go to unusual places. She will be home at the end of November though ,just in time for her birthday and Christmas. Now I have to rack my brains to think of what I can get her that she might like . She has been a good friend to me over the past 40 odd years and we do still have a good giggle as we did when we were young Mums ,she used to be my DDs child-minder when she was little (she's now 41)A good friend is hard to find but well worth keeping once you have.Well I'm off to forage in the freezer to find something for dinner, I may just whip up a nice Spanish omelette as that's quick and easy. Have a good evening everyone ,I have to take my three youngest DGS to the cinema tomorrow ,I think they want to see Igor. I shall be all cinema'ed out by the week-end

  • Hi all,

Im a complete novice at OS and have signed up to my very first GC, but quite chuffed tonight as I have a soup in the sc, and enough hm curry leftover to have as tomorrows lunch. I feel a bit obsessive at the moment and am spending hours reading all the threads to get tips. Will it pass?

Welcome canidothis, the obsession will probably not pass, as you discover more and more ways to cut back you will likely get worse, but don't worry about it, its a nice place to be.

  • Thankyou Meanmarie, I have to say its a great place to be. My OH just keeps raising his eyebrows when he sees me on my Laptop. Hopefully it'll turn to a grin when he sees what I can save.
He certainly hasnt turned his nose up to Black Saturns fruit cobbler!

    Evening All

Just wanted to update you, I think I have been doing well from all the tips on here.

I went with the Tesco blue stripe dishwasher tablets and they are fine. I have managed to get my shopping bill down from over £200 per week to under £100, that's for 2 adults 3 hungry teens 2 teens who stay often (step kids) a 4 year old and the teens who seem to descend on my house around meal times (my kids friends!). I always have a full house.

Yesterday my DD brought home 6 friends near tea time  So I made a huge pan of Corned Beef Hash (just like my Nana used to make), baked some bread rolls and made an apple crumble with custard. They were all very happy even my lot.

Today I made spicy Bacon and lentil soup from stuff I had hanging around in the fridge and cupboards for lunch with the bread from last night. We had home made toad in the hole with mash and leek for tea it was lovely though my batter mix did not rise too well.

Just got some bread in the oven now, it is a good work out all that kneeding. I have also bought the stuff to make the hobnob recipee with my little one in the morning.

Thanks all, I am really enjoying my new found home making skills.

Hi all I have lurked for a while and found everyone so inspiring. However I wanted to take the plunge and join in and start making changes to my life! So hello all!
  • Hi KLA maybe we should hold hands and do this as newbies together lol.

mishmash your bacon and lentil soup sounds yummy. I wondered what to do with the remaining couple of slices I had lurking in the fridge.

Can i tell you all about Fumble pie? My mum used to make it many years ago, leftover bolognaise in a baking dish with a batter poured over and cooked til risen and golden. It was scrummy, served with gravy and veg.
And you only need a couple of spoonfuls of bolognaise.
