Yes, I like to think the lot on mse are generally a 'nicer class' of folk.

Well I am. I can't speak for anyone else though.

Permission to speak freely Generalli sir....

I think you have the strategic advantage.
You clearly are a wise and good man for realising that for the next few years your primary role will be Daddy/Husband. Maybe during the next phase you get to be king-finance-worker again, or perhaps start another method of gainful employment? I know which title i would prefer on my headstone.

Back in the theatre of battle, Adaptation is the KEY marker of a successful individual, and those that can embrace change are especially happy happy.

Now...Get out there sir, and show those Aussies how the POMEies do it!!
Can I second the above. Parenting /partnering; one of the hardest things in life.
Slotting the earning around it is doubly hard.

But I know you will be fine as you have original thought...and if you have that...you can seek out gaps and opportunities anywhere.

Very kind words both of you.

Currently the plan (which is a very fancy word for it!) is for Mrs Generali to get some part time work and for me to take a bit of time and try to find a really good and well paid job. I've got a pretty good CV but what I'll need is for someone to take a chance on someone moving industries.

Once I get something Mrs Generali is going to uni and wants to become an accountant which should free me from the burden of having to earn a pretty good wage for us just to survive. Then if I make good money it's a bonus and so I can concentrate on doing things that interest me.
  • Oh, Generali, I've been a fan for a long time. Hope you and Mrs Generali and the generalissimos have a great time.

We'll miss your wisdom, but it's a great opportunity for you.

Please do post again when you can, and let us know how things are going.

Lunnon is a bit far for a drink in a pub, but I know many MSErs will be with you in spirit.

    All the very best,
    Regards
    Jen

Ah I'm over on Bermondsey Street. Might pop along, although knowing work I'll probably work late, get tired, forget, and go home.

Will be sorry to miss 'the event' and wish you love and luck for the future.

BTW, did you mean to put your whole photo gallery on view?

It doesn't matter, they're public anyway.

You have to pay for the 'fruity' ones.

I thought I'd start a new thread for this. As many of you know I'm off to Aus in a bit and there seems to be some interest in a meet-up (possibly to make sure I am actually leaving).

So if anyone wants to buy me a drink or give me a smack in the face then I'll be in the Market Porter (next to Borough Market/London Bridge) from 3pm in a fortnight, Sunday 9th November.

I'll write MSE on a bit of paper and stick it on the table I'm sitting at. If anyone gets there before me then please do the same. If anyone has top brewery connections then perhaps we can do this MSE style and get 2-for-1 beers or something.

Nope won't be there and yep will be glad to see the back of you.
Bloody fed up of reading your posts and not understanding a bloody word of them ...

Can I just add...... Whenever we have 'chased the money' it seemed to run further and further away....yet when we just concentrated on what we were good at or jumped into a little gap that we saw....the money came to us.
Don't know why, as those I know who are going to sail through the downturn with a wedge in the bank seemed to me to chase the money AND catch it AND keep hold of it. Bu then lifes not fair.

Accountancy sounds like a ''handy skill''.......useful when running the 'family business'?;) Plus something that can be done freelance at home too.

My sisters OH owns a small IT support company plus has lucrative contract work (but those not for much longer) but he has always been rubbish at admin. She worked for CBI, Warburgs (sic?) and then MAM (PA to director).....but gave up work to have kids.
Now they are older, she runs and manages his admin like no-one else....all in school/nursery hours. School hols are a nightmare (I always had a barely alive business after the summer holidays) but it really fits in plus it would cost him a fortune otherwise to employ her skills.

I'm feeling to go with the flow here. Is there a downturn in Aus too? I know NZ is feeling it as OH baby sister lives out there..../she's 36 now BTW.

Parent sharing...if it can be done...best of both worlds.
    F/T + kids...heavy stuff.
F/T out all day trying to bring home all the £££ double heavy stuff.
Shared responsibilities, if possible, gives both parents the best of both worlds.

My MIL has never quite 'got it'..always thought it was terrible that OH would collect kids from school 2 or 3 days pwk, have to *shock, horror* go to the shops, and buy the food to *double shock, horror* ''cook is own dinna''.

She nearly cried when she saw him load a washing machine.
    Terrible wife he had.

Mind you, she thinks I'm totally fab now...took 23 years mind.
