All these stories of sexist/misogynistic mother in laws really tickle me. If I were married, and mum found out that wifey did all the housework etc she'd play hell with me!

It's a more modern world these days, I'd be more than happy to cook and clean every day (so long as the li'l lady does the ironing :rotfl:) I suppose it's just natural though, having grown up seeing my parents (both of whom worked when we were kids) sharing the load.

I think some of the posters here might actually be my mums age, so it's probably her that got the acid tongue treatment - a lot changes in a generation it seems.

I actually quite enjoy some housework. Keeps one busy but lets one's mind wander. I don't like dishwasher stacking/unstacking vacuum cleaning much. So I wash up by hand and hoover infrequently, DH likes hoovering so tends to do it for me at the wekend.

Ironing is ok, keep you warm in winter and if you use benice water itbecomes an aromatherapy steam beauty treatment. I iron things that don't even need ironing when my skin needs a lift or I'm cold.

DH and his mother in law get on really well. (pobably better then me and her!), I don't hav a mother in law whih is sad. I'd like o know all those sill things like what kind of child DH was and how long he was when he was born. Things F-i-Ls don't remember.

    G,

completely o/t but so sorry to hear about your father...life can be very cruel can't it - I lost my dad last year at 63. sounds like you have been through some really torrid times as a family in the last few years and deserve some good luck. Hope the move goes well, I'm sure Mrs G will benefit hugely from being nearer her family and they will be especially delighted to have the grandkids nearer!

you will be sadly missed though!

Was just going to add to my previous post that if chance or fate or whatever has forced you to have some time out with your kids when they're little, enjoy every minute of it - maybe someone up there had your best interests at heart. You can always earn money - children are only that small and at that delightful stage for a short time - enjoy every minute of it! And if you can be there to give extra support to your wife, even better.

Sounds like it should all work out really well for you.

Should add - children go on being wondeful and amazing - but once they're at school, you don't get to see so much of them. The toddler/baby stage is probably hardest in terms of sheer physical energy - so if you're lucky enough to have 2 pairs of hands around to deal with it, then you're blessed indeed. :)

I'm 31, so probably not quite your mother's age (-:

However, in our case, it was grandparents not parents. My own Granny, when she found out OH did all the ironing, said, "hang on to him!". So I have!

    I'm 38 so maybe a bit closer.......

NDG, you were quite correct, he didn't come down here at all to see his son and in fact moaned at me because I didn't answer his text immediately even though I wasn't allowed to have my phone on bedside due to the machines that were assisting his breathing plus the monitors.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Won't be able to make it to the pub Generali, but wishing you all the best with your move. :hello:

Not sure if I'd be too keen to give up the "stay at home dad" thing though!!

Very kind words both of you.

Currently the plan (which is a very fancy word for it!) is for Mrs Generali to get some part time work and for me to take a bit of time and try to find a really good and well paid job.

If I were you, I would carry out the first part of that plan, and put the second part on hold for as long as possible ;)
