I think I will start with the doc - but I wonder whether it's too early yet...
am somewhat concerned because she tells me they aren't allowed to leave class for the loo - and she is asking not to go to school. Their lessons are 2 hours sometimes - at best she is going to be worrying and hence distracted...so I need to check with school. As this is only the second she is still a novice...

Would definitely speak to year tutor and/or form tutor. If the school is any good they should be very helpful....after all schools have to consider ' Every Child matters' and that means all aspects including health and emotional well being

That sounds very wrong - they should be allowed to go if they need to. I remember this being a problem at school as the breaks between lessons weren't long enough to go to the loo AND get to the next lesson. What happens if they're sick? Are they expected to throw up in class if they aren't allowed out? Why don't you work out with her how often she feels she needs breaks (and remind her that if she has an opporutunity, take it, even if she doesn't need it yet, as it will give her more time later). If she has a strategy to cope, then she'll feel happier. Does she have any friends in the same situation who she can talk to?

Problem is there are some who say they want to go and have actually arrange to meet up with a mate or are planning some other deed. However if there is a medical issue and included in that are problem periods, then of course they should be able to go.

All this toilet in school talk reminds me of an incident when I was in seniors, we had that rule and very little time to get between classes, a very quiet lad asked if he could go, teacher said no, he asked several more times and we could see him getting more annoyed, he said the next time, 'if you don't allow me to relieve myself appropriately in the toilets I will be forced to do so in the bin in front of you' we were stunned, considering we were 12/13 and he was one of the quiet ones and well spoken. Anyway teacher refused again, next thing I heard was a spraying noise, there he was piddling in the bin next to her desk bold as brass..........couldn't believe it.........class ended up applauding :rotfl: anyway after that incident teachers who used to stick to the rules without fail were a little more flexible, I do wonder if it was because they were worried it would happen again.

vivw is right with the ECM policy, gives you more leverage to argue health/emotional issues now aswell, I'm working on that and AHDC at the mo to put in suggestions for change :D I understand why the rules are made but where there is medical need or rules are too rigid, it just causes problems.

Argh, DPs Dad has just informed us that next year (autumn) he will be going on holiday for 6 weeks to celebrate his retirement, eeek, that leaves me with his Grandma to deal with for 6 weeks..........sorry, I do love her to bits but she's extremely dependant on others and frustrates me sometimes with it, there is just DPs Dad/Step Mam and us to pick up the pieces as just a small family unlike my family which is very large, she's also always so extremely ungrateful of the support she gets saying things like 'they must have came because they felt guilty' 'someone must have told them to come' which irritates me so much. Suppose at least he's given plenty of notice. I'm saying me because she prefers me to be there if DPs Dad/step Mam aren't, unless she needs a mans job doing like showing her how to change the channel on the tv..........yes, she does ask us to go over to do that.....she will not read a manual and needs someone to set everything up for her then show her how to use it.

Right HHC 2-2.30pm or I will never do anything in which I plan to.......

empty WM, hang contents on airers, refill WM with TDable stuff
empty caravan throws from TD, fold, put ? somewhere to store
start a spreadsheet of where I am putting caravan things so I can find them all next year :o
empty 2 bags and sort contents
empty caravan bin and put some borax/tea tree oil in, leave to soak in garden so dogs don't knock it over
start a box of things that have been cleaned and need to go back to caravan (pans, fridge shelves, inner tent etc)
empty other airer of anything that is dry
One day I might be more organised...........

  • Loved the joke A&W'sMum - very funny...

Hi Sexymouse, hope everything goes well for you today, although I doubt you will get this till tonight - You've got a lot to cope with at the mo, and I know how stressful moving can be (moved 7 times in 8 years! ) so if you're feeling like killing someone, do what I did and pop to the loo and just sit in there for a bit - stepping away from it can help you get your head around whats happening a bit better, then go make a cuppa for everyone so they can calm down too... doesn't always work but helped stop me killing my mum/hubby/fil/kids, etc soooo many times...
As for your neighbour, invite her round if she can get out and make sure you pop in to see her a few times if you get time to help her adjust, if she's got your new phone number I'm sure she will be OK with a couple of calls too.... Good luck

Can someone explain to me the etiquette of poppy wearing? I have always thought you buy a poppy and wear it on 11 November for the day.

But, whenever I watch the news or other almost live programmes at the moment, presenters are already wearing them. To me that dilutes the message of rememberance. A bit like putting Xmas decorations up in November.

Am I being a bit 'special'? Or have I missed an edict or something somewhere?

A slightly confused and really philosophical Soappie

I feel the same as you - all the Xfactor contestants had them on this week too...???

Not sure on the exact etiquette, but I found this when I googled and some of the comments brought a tear to my eye - some people really are remarkable - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/yourview/1533656/Why-do-you-wear-your-poppy-with-pride.html

I also found this http://www.poppy.org.uk/ about the appeal, but again, nothing about the etiquette.

My DS was in the army cadets and did the parade in our local town to lay wreaths for the army, air force, etc round the local memorial - it's very emotional as it is a memory of the dead and what they died for - but obviously brings home other memories as these things often do to individuals and I got quite teary remembering a few things of my own. We have a service up the club too and then a 40's style night of singing old songs and stuff - really good, we all dress up and young and old get involved with a big cauldron of soup too... very ration book...:D
