(DH and I just got a return ticket each for Bristol for £25, we were there over the weekend!). Probably cheaper than paying for petrol and parking!

How dare you go to Bristol without telling us! ;) Yes I'm sure you're right about cheap trains but how long did it take?

Savvy_Sue - I could give you a lift if we're both going to a meet sometime.

I'll keep an eye on this thread for more meet action.

    Hi all

Ampersand sorry to hear about car trouble. Tell your motor to get well NOW!

Savvy_Sue and Fran, I went to Bristol on a romantic two day outing (one night only), we really needed a bit of time on our own, that's why I did not tell anyone! We went to Bristol because we liked it very much after coming to the OS meet and we just wanted to spend a lot of time walking hand in hand along the canals etc... and we did! The weather was perfect and we stayed in a lovely hotel in the West End (courtesy of a great offer I found online of course). In different circumstances I would have alerted the Bristol OSers but on this occasion it just had to be him and me!

The train takes just under 2 hours. The underground just under 1 hour (in fact we miraculously made it in half hour on the day of departure, thinking we had missed the train but didn't! But this is a lucky exception). Of course, no parking trouble, no traffic, no queues.

Savvy_Sue, good luck with driving lessons, choose your instructor carefully, make sure you have a sensible one (I discarded two and failed one test before finding the perfect one, who was worth his weight in gold).
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

:rotfl: you're forgiven, we're doing similar this weekend, in Bath, but I've passed on the chance to update my style and swish all day because that defeats the object of the exercise!

Fortunately it shouldn't be driving lessons as such, I just want someone (other than DH) to tell me I'm OK driving, and I have a recommendation from a friend who has only learned in an automatic. I did the same after the brain surgery!

Ah well, can't argue with that, would not have wanted to play gooseberry! Glad you had a good time.

Thanks Fran, although it was more of a "two little old people" break, not a terrific amount of romance after all, all we needed was a rest and break from kids, cats and home, which we got. But it was great fun all the same!

I've been to both and they are both worth visiting, but for different reasons;)

    LOL, Annie!

Not been to Madeira, but Lewisham is second to none when it comes to fish and chips (and a decent market, too!).

Have a good trip, Vouchersrme and looking forward to seeing you in not too long!
