I shall definitely be there :) the only thing that would stop me is the legs, and I've got enough painkillers to put to sleep a horse so I think I should have enough for the underground and a train ;)
If I can get a decent price on the train I'd come back, depends which works out cheaper...and dependent on my habbit of missing trains, don't think I'd be able to risk that!x
  • Where's the best place to look for cheap train tickets? The rate I'm going I won't be able to afford to stay over night, and I'll have to leave early!

I still follow this thread but East London is too far, it takes me 2 hours to get to the M25 on M4 for example but getting to your area takes a g e s !

Perhaps have one in West London sometime?

Sadly I doubt it: I'm just about back at work after The Big Break back in November, and 'gadding about' has to be rationed. Still can't drive, either ...

Fran and Savvy_Sue, sorry neither of you can make it.

However re. Fran's request about organising a meet in West London, it would be great if a West London OSer could organise one, as that is an area of London I really do not know! I know that it takes a long time to cross London by car. But if you book in advance you can find very good bargains on the train and it takes a lot less time than in the car (DH and I just got a return ticket each for Bristol for £25, we were there over the weekend!). Probably cheaper than paying for petrol and parking!

Hope to catch up with both of you soon, any Bristol meets coming up?

Just a note for zoelikesjam and any other Mr T points/vouchers Empresses/ Emperors) - you can redeem vouchers at any UK or Scottish Youth Hostel=1/3 of face cost and no real money changing hands. Hostels are a far cry from anything you may be fearing. I've been a Life Member for decades - all I often want is the safe anonymous roof and no social obligation.
I'll be at Rotherhithe and prob.>Cheltenham for Antiques Fair next day, which is not to say the Georges V and similar are unknown to me...ça d!pend le jour.
[Have just paid £230 for car/MOT today.:-( and was due in France last week. Various can't-be-cancelled/moved appts mean this is stretching away until next month now]

Again, my capacity for organising - or even thinking about organising! - anything is rationed atm! :rotfl:

Although I did drive our new (automatic) car round the CostCo car park this evening, but decided I wasn't quite fit for the open road! Going to find a driving instructor using an automatic and take a lesson to see what they think.
