To Caterina and all OS'ers meeting have a lovely time in Bristol.
As you know I'm in India at the moment, having a wonderful time, and will be with you in spirit on Saturday.
What you may not know is that Bristol is my birthplace and you actually meet on my birthday.
I'm sending you all a virtual bottle of champagne from India.... curry would mess up the internet:rolleyes:

ME, I am glad you are having a great time, looking forward to seeing you again and hearing about your trip! PM me when you are back and I shall post a SE London meet - and hope the Bristol and West OSers will make a trip to London to see us! Meanwhile I am sure we will be celebrating your birthday in style - happy birthday in advance, in case I do not get a chance to post on the day!:bdaycake:

I am so looking forward to the meet this weekend, I am counting the minutes! It looks like there is going to be a fair number, that is going to be so great!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Me too!

DH had a bit of a sulk though...it is our 'free' weekend (as I call it - ie. we don't have the SK's staying) and, for once, he suggested that we could 'do something' on Sat (he knows that I have been down lately and was thinking it would cheer me up - bless him!) but I replied that I couldn't possibly as I have a 'a date' with some Old Stylers from MSE!!!

Savvy Sue - I can't get the PM thing to work for some reason, but could you send em auction details - maybe I can take DH as compensation! (is it in a hostelry? - He will be keen if there is beer involved - LOL!).

Yes they do and one of the options is a veggiburger which is quite tasty too! They've also got options for £2.99 meals.

I regret no beer AFAIK, wine though. And my DH will be there for the auction (I did say he could come and meet you lot but he wasn't that enthusiastic, he is doing a sleepout for his charity the night before!)

I will send you a PM (by clicking on your username and selecting the Send Personal Message option) but let me know if that doesn't reach you! It's in a church but don't let that put you off.

Anyone else interested, I am not sure if we will have tickets on the door or not (hopefully not because we'll have sold them all!) so expressions of firm interest would be good sooner rather than later!

Well, it ties in with those who might be interested in the auction as well!

Those of you from outside Bristol who are planning to make a day and a night of it might like to know that the Auction is being held in Clifton, very close to the bars and razzmatazz of Whiteladies Road. And I'm sure it'll all still be happening after the auction finishes - it's term-time, and I remember not long after moving to Bristol being blown away by encountering a traffic jam on that road at 10 pm, mostly caused by students overflowing from the pavements. Having come from a fairly quiet town, the sight of jugglers with fire clubs and so many people at that time of day was quite a shock to the system.

So you could work your way from Wetherspoons up into Clifton during the course of the afternoon. While I wouldn't call it moneysaving, we do have interesting shops in Clifton, including a wide range of independents. Not to mention a better class of charity shop ... at the last wedding I went to we ladies were all admiring each other's outfits and sharing which charity shop they had come from! :rotfl:

Those of you who bring your moneysaving heads with you might find the Gloucester Road more to your taste. ;) Of course other locals will have their own recommendations, and Cabot Circus is worth a look just for the Escher-like architecture!

the place you probably REALLY all should go to, if you don't know it already, is St Nicholas Market - very close to Corn Street!

As I shall be arriving early on Saturday, I would like to take advantage of the Marie Claire Origins offer (free facial and free face scrub) before making my way to Wetherspoons.

So I checked where the nearest Origins counter is, and it is in John Lewis, that from the map I saw looks like a million miles away from Bristol City Centre.

Could any of you locals please let me know how to get there from the station (Temple Mead) and back to Wetherspoon? Is there a day ticket for buses and is it worth me buying it?

    Thank you Bristol OSers!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
