Ex-ICEsavers - where now?

  • I can't help you that decision I'm afraid. I have opened it anyway and moved some other savings into it. But I will use it for my Icesave savings when they re-appear. Also because we are not sure what time period we will get our money back I figured that it was better to have the account up and running. If you think there are better deals around at the time you could always move it. Call it a holding account if you like. The rate looks pretty good to me at this moment but with interest rates falling who knows what will happen.

Could be down to 1% in the USA soon

I've opened a Natwest ISA and will move the savings into a FirstDirect (HSBC) account.

No use diversifying further as it's a gamble keeping savings anywhere in these dark days, so I will also have a few k's of non-interest-bearing cash for a quick getaway when the apocalypse comes :hello:

    I've opened a Natwest ISA

Hello. I have just spoken to the Natwest about this account and the nice lady on the phone was unsure what would happen in the event of the Natwest trying to get the funds from Icesave and failing. Would the bonus still apply? She was not sure.
Do you have any further information on this? What did you put as the transfer date on your transfer form?

    Hi Tigger123.

I can speak from experience with Natwest as in fact my ISA transfer has already failed. As long as they (Natwest) don't pull the offer before you finally are able to move the cash, it will still be valid. You can re-request a transfer (I assume by filling in another transfer form or the relevant FSCS claim form naming your Natwest ISA as the recipient account).

Even if they pull the offer I am fine with the lower rate for this tax year, and will just move to another British ISA provider next year, lessons learned!
  • Okay that's great. She said as the offer had been running for a month now, and it will probably go soon. Maybe if we get some firm news soon I might ditch the A&L account and open one with them.

Not decided which ISA yet, but likely to be either Northern Rock FRISA (6.0%) or Newcastle BS (6.0%) but waiting to see how they're going work it first.

Chameleon, I've just sent off an application to open a fixed rate ISA with the Scarborough Building Society. It is for 1 year and pays 6.30% or 6.10% monthly. You possibly know about this FRISA already.
  • Hi there.
I closed my ISA account with Icesave on the 6th, and hoped the transfer would go ahead to my barclays current account before they closed, but of course... it didn't!
So i'm wondering, how does this affect my ISA status, does anybody know?? I'm guessing i'll have to wait until April to open a new one someplace?
Also as my Icesave account is closed i can no longer log on, so hope i still receive instructions on how to claim my money? I'm feeling a little in limbo!!

    Cheers
    Dan.

I had an ISA with ING which I transferred to Icesave (d'oh!). I might look at Northern Rock to transfer it to.

The other Icesave savings will probably go into Tesco, because if they fail, we're completely stuffed!! :D

I must have missed this one, thanks!

I don't think it's listed in any of the 'best buy' tables I've looked at either.
