    Just read this on Yahoo:

"Iceland, a surprisingly high-profile victim of the global credit crisis, raised interest rates by massive 6 percentage points to 18 percent, taking the opposite tack to most countries fighting the global financial crisis."

Anyone for a fixed term bond at these levels ?? :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • Are there any banks left to put anything in?:rotfl:

can anyone clarify what the below means re the mobile phone. is it just having the ability to set up a payment through a phone if you want to do that if u dont have direct access to a comp because you are away from home for eg.

No - if you want to add a new payment instruction online then IF send you a text message with a code in it as part of the process. You then have to enter that code into the payment instruction screen to confirm the instruction.

  • what do you think of the saga online top 5 tracker account
    http://www.saga.co.uk/money-shop/savings/online-tracker/

I decided to open one with saga and have completed the form. They are backed by birmingham midshires

so that is sainsbury already set up seperately for dh and for me
NR e saver for me already
smile savings joint for me and dh already
and just might look into principality or bradford and bingley

I am just so twitchy now after what happened with icesave. Not scared about getting the money back but scared about having no access when needed so I want to spread the savings around better

It's setting up a new destination for payments, if that's the right terminology, not per payment. It's so someone can't log in to your account, set up a payment and drain all the funds to another account. The idea is that even if someone has stolen your login details (maybe through phishing), the chances are they won't also have your mobile.

Some banks require a card reader to do the same thing (NatWest/RBS) so this way is far more convenient.

By the way, I should say that you can still set up instructions by phone if you need to.

Going through the opening process with Tesco, 3 weeks since I posted the cheque. It hasn't been cashed yet. Anyone done it faster? Should I check they have received it?
