    Not at all unheard of. There are Irish protestants in Northern Ireland. There are also Catholic unionists in Northern Ireland. Either religion doesn't necessarily define political standpoint.

    That is their choice to do so and as people from Northern Ireland are entitled to 'dual nationality' and can hold a British and Irish passport, they may well consider themselves Irish. The point being that living or originating from Northern Ireland does not make you Irish, it makes you Northern Irish!

    Also as we have experienced many years of trying to explain our situation to many, many different people (don't even start me if the person is from USA!:rolleyes: ) sometimes, just because we get very bored of it all, we will let people address us as Irish just so we can leave!! I'm sure many a Welsh/Scottish person has experienced the same but I for one would expect more intellect from a person who actually lives in the UK and therefore should be aware of the countries that form it.

    I am also aware that NI is part of the UK but referred to it as part of GB as when it comes to the Olympics we are included in 'Team GB!' and thought it might help some simpler people to understand!! :p
