You can still complain the the cc company, they may block the seller's use of card transactions if they suspect fraud. And claiming non-existent MRHA membership is fraud.0

Ive had a reply from another buyer on the forum here who has had the same experience but going on for much longer. Looks as if I have been "had".

I tried this route to get cheap specs and wasn't impressed. The first set of specs distorted objects as I moved my head so I contacted the company and they sent me some new ones, after I'd sent them a photocopy of my prescription. The new ones were better but my off-axis vision was not as good as my old high st specs. (My prescription is not large and not complicated!)
I went to a high st opticians, whom I had used before, to get them adjusted (I bought some lens cleaner and more contact lenses so it wasn't quite so cheeky) and they found that one lens was loose and couldn't be tightened. So I ended up with two useless pairs of specs. Granted they only cost £23 but what hassle.
However, I do like the frames and it was useful to be able to buy by size as I have a small head. I'm now getting them reglazed at Specsavers.
I certainly wouldn't use these online suppliers for kids and I probably won't be using them again.0 -
Hi, looked forward to picking up my new varifocals today from T*sco store Accrington.
I only have a a very small prescription so was not expecting what turned up.
What a shock when I saw them, the thickness of the lens was as if they were off bottom of a jam jar ! ,
the salesman tried to fob me off by saying that that was the normal thickness for vari's, until I produced my old ones, then he changed his tune and said he would return them to see what could be done,
T*sco's BOGOF offer, too good to be true, maybe,
both specs have been sent back and will see what turns up,
wish I had not bothered..........0 -

They will have provided you with standard lenses, whereas your previous pair will have been high-index lenses. This is probably part of the reason that the Tesco offering looks cheap.
You mentioned the Tesco BOGOF offer. I cannot see that on their website. It actually says at the moment that you can have a second pair for £10 from the same range or a lesser range than your primary pair.0 -
can you use your nhs voucher to get lenses put in your own frame, does anyone know? Thanks0

I've lurked moneysavingexpert for a while, and this thread caused me to buy spex off the internet. Just thought I'd share my tale of woe as a caution to others...
I'm a student, and pretty broke. I lost my glasses on a drunken night out, and shopped around for some new ones, but they were all out of my budget (it was before christmas, and I'd blown all my loan on fags and booze!). So I bought some spex off the internet. Everything was fine at first...
Then a few weeks later I started to get headaches. Severe headaches. Headaches so bad I thought my head would explode. At one point, I was quite convinced that I had a brain tumour, so I did what most people would do, and dosed up on painkillers and ignored the problem for another fourtnight. Eventually though it got to the point where I had to visit my GP. He performed a range of tests, but still the headaches persisited. Eventually I was refered to my GP to the hospital, where one of the consultants sugested it might be worht going to the opticians to check my prescription. So I went to my local optician where I went as a child, and she did the test, no significant change since last time. Then she says "let me have a little look at the one's you're wearing now" and puts them onto a little machine, looks at my records, gives them a curious look, and checks them again. Apparently my 'OCs' (I think she said OCs, but I might be wrong) were out. I told her straight, I just can't afford new glasses right now, and she pulls out a little booklet and gets the receptionist to fill it in with me. I send off some student loan paperwork and send it off to the NHS. In the meantime she orders me some glasses anyway, and I go back with a voucher that the NHS sent me, and my glasses are all sorted for free, and I can claim a refund for my sight test. I put the spex on and THANK GOODNESS, my head feels better almost immediately. After about two or three hours, my headache is gone, and I'm back to normal.
TL;DR: Online spex cost me about a month and a halfs worth of headaches, several visists to my GP and the hospital, and my local optician sorted it out in about half an hour (plus a week wait for the spex themselves) and it was free!
(For anyone interested the from in question is a HC1 form, and it can also get you free dental treatment and free wigs!).0
