  • Just wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere to buy teen or kids glasses online. I'm not a teenager but i have a petite face and regular glasses just look ridiculous on me. The lady in Specsavers recommended i look at the teenage range but they have hardly any choice, not to mention the face that they all seem to be designer and are therefore are quite expensive. I also need the glasses to be thinned as i have quite a high prescription but when i have looked at this online it seems to really bump the prices up. I did find a place called thinlenses.co.uk that are reasonably priced and include thin lenses as standard but they have hardly any choice in petite frames.

You won't find very many, as it's illegal to dispense minors online.
Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

  • I have metioned this before, but Martins people have missed many smaller online suppliers off their list and also failed to mention that these smaller independant opticians can deal with customers in a far more personal way. I use Optical Mail Order (who will supply frames and lenses from as little as £12.47), whenever I call them for advice on my prescription I talk to the same chap, Richard, who now even remembers me. He is staright talking and has not, so far, tried to sell me more expensive specs than I have picked from his site. His service is fantastic, I have never had to wait more than a week for my new glasses, and I am sure there are other 'indies' out there who are just as good, so take my advice and look past Martins 'big boys' before you make your purchase and give these independant guys a chance, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Isn't that the 3rd piece or spam for the same optician from kezzmas?
    Reported anyway.

http://www.daysoftglasses.com/ Just had an email from these people - it's whereI buy daily contact lenses for my daughter sometimes.
Their glasses include a lot of coatings that other sites charge for so probably worth a look. I've just bought some from Glasses direct otherwise I'd consider them.
  • has anyone any experience of glassesme.com? My husband has placed an order with them, they took a week to contact him to say one of the frames is out of stock, sked him to choose another and haven't responded to his reply. Order tracking just says "customising/preparing" and their phone number and live chat don't get any response.
  • I have spent about 2hrs lookingt at both glasses sites. Even calling one and e-mailing them. If you have standard wants i.e close reading or distance they are ok. If like me, you want varifocals etc then they do not have all the boxes properly for the 100% correct prescription. It is also a fact tthat Glasses Direct will charge you twice if you pick refractions and have also picked one of the packs because part of this is in both. For one designer pair with varifocals and pack with the free pair with tints it was still going to cost me
£180 after discount because if their Varifocal cost, £75. Premier only charge £29 for this and I can see everything and get roughly the same for £150. They are not that helpful on the phone and tell you to call your optician. I am Diabetic and cannot afford slip ups.

Just put an order in with glasses

direct using a 10% voucher it came to £138.05 and I should get 18% cashback with quidco too.

Got nice pair of jeff banks glasses with thinned lenses, scratch resistant an UV filter and a pair of storm glasses with scratch resistant and green tint (UV).

Yes I could have got cheaper but I am quite particular when it comes to glasses and just finding something I like is a blessing.

Will update with relevant feedback as and when.

    Hello Drymartini64,

Can you tell me a bit more about what information you believe we don't collect for varifocals? There are certain measurements we require to make varifocals we can't collect online (as they are dependent on the frame you choose) however we collect these by taking measurements from a spare pair of glasses that you have available (we pay postage both ways). I can assure you that everything will be collected to ensure that the varifocals are made correctly.
(On a personal side note I can assure you this works as I've bought varifocals for both my mother and mother-in-law - two customers I'd definitely not want to upset!)

Also, on the phone, were you talking about us (Glasses Direct) or the other company you were trying out? If it's us I'd like to find out more and see what happened as customer service is something we try to be the very best at.

  • Ive posted this elsewhere but then found this thread - apologies.

I ordered a pair of specs from specsandglasses.com a couple of weeks ago, they still havent arrived and I cant get through to the company by phone - the answer message is ALWAYS the same whether they are open or not, I have left numerous messages and I have also emailed them and never get a reply.

The website claims they are registered with MRHA and having checked with them, the company is not listed on their registered list. I googlemapped the postcode and it appears to be a residential area although I know some online companies do operate from home, but I am now getting really anxious that I have been well and truly HAD for the first time after years of happy online shopping with care (but perhaps not enough care?!) :(

Has anyone else any experience with them, or any advice on what I can do - I really need my specs or my money back (credit card but sadly less than £100 so cant claim it back through them).
Im knitty, Im nutty, but I dont know anyone called Nora. :p
