I'm not sure I agree. I know the PD is different for near and distance as the focus distance of your eyes determines the rotation of your eye and thus changes the PD. This is a separate issue though to the same PD test based in both cases on focusing on an object about 40cm away giving two totally different results.
How did your optician measure yours? I seem to recall my chap used a simple ruler, taking separate left & right measurements (he's given values to the nearest 0.5mm).

I got mine from Tesco's for about £9 - swimming goggles do not have to be dead on and I was quite happy with the happy medium for my eyes. Of course, it depends on what his prescription is, but it is definitely worth going and having a look. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

Although PD measurements by ruler are common, at Posh Eyes we use an electronic device known as a Pupilometer. This measures mono PD's (i.e. two measurements, one for each eye) accurately to 0.5mm for distance and reading.
Very good, until you get proximal convergence - do you know what that is?Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Thanks very much for this Jane. The price does seem very reasonable. I have checked Tesco Optician website, but couldn't find anything on there about swimming goggles...so have emailed them. (we live in Spain but OH will be back in UK in May). Which store did you get yours and how long did it take.
thanx. Sandy
Got them from The Meadows, Sandhurst. They were in the opticians so you may be lucky with the email. They seemed to be on a counter that was an afterthought though! Just bought them off the counter, no waiting required! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
nedmundo,
That's a bit cruel! But I agree, which is why I've always preferred using a ruler! Sometimes apparent automation doesn't always mean it's better or more accurate!
Just an illustration that not everything is as good as it seems and measurements need some interpretation.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

Hi everyone,
I am hoping a few of the opticians will be able to help me here. I was about to order some ralph lauren glasses online, and the website where i found them advised faxing through my prescription so they can give me a quote.
I chose to ring them instead, and was advised by the person who answered (he said he is an optician) that because of my high prescription (R: -5.75 with a cyl of -1.0, axis 30/ L: -8.00 with a cyl of -0.75, axis 175) it would be better to get them fitted face to face. This was even with my accurate PD of right eye 29mm and left eye 31mm.
Has anyone else been told this before? I thought it was extremely honest of him to say this considering i was willing to order the glasses straight away.
Also, what are people's thoughts about ordering the frames I want online (saving approx. £50) and going to an optician to get the lenses fitted?
Thanks in advance.0
