Several people on here mention that they have lost their prescription. Most opticians will happily give you a new copy of your prescription if it's current (less than 2 years old).0

Have always gone to Boots Opticians before but I got a Nectar voucher for a free eye test at Dollond & Aitchison so made an appointment with the intention of then ordering from Glasses Direct, the reason being that I did not get on with varifocals a few years ago and want to try bifocals this time without wasting too much money if they don't suit me. I have ordered these now at a cost of £48 and they were even doing a free P&P promotion for was perfectly timed. Now waiting for the glasses to arrive and shall report further...
Meanwhile I have to say that I was not impressed with the staff at D&A, there was a very elderly lady in front of me waiting at the reception desk and the woman was frankly rude to her, saying they were very busy and could she just take a seat without getting her name or anything. I was completely ignored and the next person to arrive whose appointment was after mine was shown straight in. Well anyway I got the free prescription which suited my purpose but was then put under pressure to order some new glasses right away which I resisted, but had to ask for a copy of the prescription as she wasn't going to give it to me otherwise.0 -
Hi,
Went to D & A today to have a free eye test using a "Nectar" voucher I had received.
The eye test went fine, but afterwards got a bit of a hard sell. I said there was no way I was going to buy glasses without a second opinion from my other half - or else I'd be in trouble (some elements of truth there!!). I stood waiting for her to give me my prescription but she just held on to it. She said when I come back just tell them that I had an eye test earlier and give my details then they can help me with glasses. I felt really awkward (being the person that I am) and left without my prescription.
Is it correct that I have a right in law to have a copy of my prescription and if so can I ring up and say I forgot to get it and will pop back in to collect it at some point?
Thanks.0 -

That's appalling. I'd go back and demand a copy (very loudly!).

You are entitled by law to have your prescription. Phone and ask them to mail it you.0 -
I also had "difficulty" getting a copy of my prescription out of D&A. Told it is available in their system for when you come in again to purchase! Couldn't be bothered to argue, but did make my own note of the PD. Went to Tesco, had a free eye test + 100 points. It was one of the most through I have had. Little pressure to purchase but did get some good advice on suitable frames and type. Only problem was I didn't want a second free pair as this is my first pair of distance glasses and really wanted to see how I got on with them. Was adamant that I didn't want varifocals - D&A almost insistant that they were the best.(I have had reading glasses for occasional use for a couple of years).
Eventually purchased a pair online from www.selectspecs.com who have been very good, slight delay of a few days on delivery as the designer frames apparantly had to come from Italy, but saved over £280 on D&A prices and similar on Tesco by the time you have paid the extra for the scratch resistant coating, the anti reflectant coating and the thinner lenses on both pairs! Select specs give you this for free. Well recommended.0 -
Unfortunately I need to purchase some new glasses very quickly for work (I'm an Air Traffic Controller and am back in work on Jan 1), so the internet probably isn't an option. Does anyone have any recommendations for which High Street opticians to use for an eye test and a new pair of prescription frames?
Thanks in advance0 -
I have a pair of specs which are in fairly decent condition - I am wondering where the cheapest place online or nationwide shop would be to get them reglazed? Preferably I'd like to get them refurbished a little too - any ideas folks?
Thanks in advance!0 -
I was due an eye test, so went for one at in independent opticans very near where I work in Croydon.
After the test had completed, and I had received my prescription I was asked to sit down with the shop manager, to discuss spectacles, lenses etc. I said that I only really wanted the prescription and wasn't going to purchase a new pair of spectacles, but I nevertheless sat down and looked at frames.
(I had previously looked on line, and found a pair of Armani 612 frames with reactolite lenses from Iris.co.uk for £199 which I was going to buy.)
The manager quoted me something in the region of £460 for the same deal, so I explained why I would not be buying from him. He told me that he thought most on line sellers were not very good, but he thought Iris were excellent, not least becasue they have shops in london.
Anyway, he was happy to price match and I am very happy with the specs.0 -
Try fashioneyes.co.uk for cheap designer glasses. They have a lot of glasses and brilliant prices and would recommend to anyone.0
