If you go for rimless specs it is best to have polycarb lenses, as both hi-index and transitions are quite brittle by comparison! It may be worth while contacting them to see if they we re-make the new glasses for you, though I think I know what the answer will be?Yes Your Dukeiness0

Does anyone know of a site that will fit lenses if the customer provides the frames? I'm finding it near-impossible to choose frames online but the difference in price between the lenses I need online and on the high street is huge.
Many thanks
Hi, there is a company that only does the fitting and supplying of lenses to frames, and they're good at it and I believe very cheap. My practice has used them when our technician is ill or away (for glazing services), try https://www.ciliaryblue.com if you want them cheap with professionalism.0 -

Really interested in this idea, can't actually afford decent glasses and have been relying on NHS freebies. I had an eye test about 4 months ago, but I've lost my prescription. Could somebody from my family go down there and request another one, or won't they give it me?
Also, I'm eligible for a NHS voucher as I'm still in college. How do I prove I'm eligible for one of these?
BTW, has anybody used glassesdirect recently? I've read all the good things about them and want to make sure the service is still good.
Hi,
You can ask for a copy of your last prescription, if it was an NHS test, they really shouldn't charge you, and they may be difficult if someone else tried to collect it on your behalf (data-protection, it will have your name, address, dob etc). If you were not issued with a voucher when you were tested, then you can ask for another one, if you were issued and didn't use it at the same Optician's they may not issue you another. (many people do this to get a second or third voucher and its the Opticians that get into trouble!). If you have real problems then speak to your local PCT (Primary Care Trust) which will be in the Yellow Pages, and they will help you!0 -
Hi
I've just bought a pair of rimless glasses from EyeExperts.co.uk. Delivery was fantastic - ordered Tuesday am and arrived Friday am. I really like the glasses from the front, but although I paid extra to have thinner lenses (1.74), they are quite thick at the sides (just over 3mm at the thickest).
My prescription is:
Right - sphere -3.50, Cyl -1.00, Axis 165
Left - sphere -3.75, Cyl -0.75, Axis 165
Should they be this thick? I've never had rimless before, so am not sure if this is normal??Any advice would be greatfully received.

Do you think they'd let my dad collect it, seeing as his signiture is on the form somewhere? He's going into town monday and it would be easier. If not I'll get it myself.Dooyoo £10.40/40, TopCashBack £17.19/30, Valued Opinions 50p/£10, Swagbucks 0/£20, Ebay £15/£250 -

That really shouldn't be a problem, ring them first and tell them your Dad is collecting!0 -
I have just sent a pair of glasses back to glasses-direct.co.uk for the third time.
I ordered a pair of bi-focals, which arrived without the bi-focal bit, then they sent a pair with the wrong pupil distance, then finally a pair that were completely the wrong size and won't fit on my head.
I have now asked for my money back, so we shall see.
Glasses DIrect have now sent my money back, but have not compensated me for the two lots of postage.
I have now received a new pair from spex4less, but guess what, they have come without the transitions coating I ordered. Another pair to go back to these rubbish online firms.0 -
I went to D&A this week and got a quote for £375 for frames which cost £90. This is for varifocal in one lense and their 1.74 index lenses. Seem far to expensive. Opinions and suggestions where I can get some cheaper. Not sure about on line for varifocals0

Hi,
Not quite sure what you meant, did you mean varifocals in both lenses and the 1.74 index, if so then a quote for £375 sounds about right for the way they charge? If this is the case, then I am sure you can find cheaper alternatives. What are the powers written on your prescription? I may be able to give you some advice as to the actual types needed.
Cheers.0 -

Just a thought - did you actually give them your PD, or rely on their 'guestimate'?“When the customer comes first, the customer will last”0
