Looks like frozen savers deposits are finally beginning to thaw...
Plus I kind of expected to hear something positive by close of business today or by next week as I noticed at lunch time the IMF had agreed a $2billion loan for Iceland - and the IMF was only agreeing to such a loan on condition that all non-Iceland national savers were refunded in full.
Looks like Iceland said a grudging "yes," so the IMF patted them on the back, squeezed their cheek and said "There you go, you 'lil scamps! You've earned it! Don't spend it all, you'll be needing all the handouts you can get for, ooooooooooooh, about the next 200 years"...0 -

I wonder whether they are planning to bring the Icesave site back into use and to permit people to transfer the money into their linked account? That may explain the £100m 'loan' given by the UK government to keep things running.
Wow - I actually got something right0 -
So any guesses what this bit means?
In parallel, the authorities are also continuing to explore whether alternative solutions might provide an even better option for payout.
Maybe a direct transfer to the Newcastle BS?0 -

I think it probably means "we've got some other ideas and we may just do them so want to warn you just in case"
It could be resetting up Icesave as a bank or an alternative bank so people can take money out - under another banks auspices (the Icelandic authorities would probably need to agree).
It could be arranging for another bank simply to have the accounts so the money is sitting there.
I think its generally a catch allMartin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

£100mil to keep a bank website running? For an extra 4 weeks? Were they running it on Duracell batteries using the combined computing power of 10,000 Atari's?
Mind you, with Iceland hoarding as much cash as possible over the past few years, it wouldn't surprise me if there were some cut backs here and there...0 -
Excellent news. Pleased the FSCS has released this information today, been getting a bit quiet on the Icesave front.
I wonder if they'll do something similar with the accounts, such as move to another bank, like KE with ING.
Let's hope we all get our money returned in the way described as speedily as possible. As long as information is forthcoming and deadlines met, even if it's just for updates and information, people will be happier.
Thanks for the post Martin.0 -
