I am sorry for this rant but i am absolutely disgusted at people on Ebay and their ability to drain parents of their money on an item that could possibley be a parents saving grace.

My 4mth old son uses the tommee tippee closer to nature soothers and they have just been discontinued for whatever reason, and for those that have a stash have jumped on the bangwagon of selling them for stupid money on ebay. They are £2.99 in the shops and there are people on Ebay doing a buy it now of £18.99 with £1.80 P&P i understand those that are on auction and its upto how much people are willing to pay for them are going for silly price too.

But how can those people with buy it nows for that kind of price (£10-20) sleep at night its totally wrong to use what can possibly be one thing that can soothe a baby to their advatage its a disgrace!!

I really can't understand why you are getting upset about this, There are other seller on Ebay who are selling them for much less and on buy it now. so who is going to be the person losing out?
The one selling it at £18.99 of course, all they will be landed with is a big Ebay bill and a pack of unsold soothers.
No one is forcing anyone to pay the high price.

If fact you don't even have to use Ebay to purchase them...

(There are other websites selling these, those are just two examples)

So really you have wasted your time and energy being indignant and angry for nothing,
  • Thank you to those that have been kind to reply to me and help me find what i was looking for.

And for those that have just been plain rude, ignorant and sarcastic that is fair enough we all have cross to bare and you all seem to have a very spiteful and rude cross. I thought as this was a forum where you could come and discuss things, but i notice that you can all moan about things that are important to you but clearly something that is important to me isnt to you, im just thankful that i can reply to other peoples posts politely and civil but i suppose i cant expect that level of response from everyone can i.

SharonB - Yes i am fully aware that i dont have to buy from ebay but i always like to check first

The Casual Tailor - I know its business and yes im over it thanks for you helpful words!!

Brooker Dave - Yes its amazing that babies come with 2 thumbs and im glad that you pointed out that they were used prior to dummies you are so correct, but not sure if you are aware but before babies have hand to eye coordination dummies are always a good alternative but again like casual tailor thanks for your helpful yet sarcastic words i shall bare that in mind for all of the time it takes to respond to this post.

I wont be bothering to read anymore of your comments and i shall certainly think twice before posting on this forum again.

With respect, it doesn't sound like you are "over it" at all.

Maybe next time you fancy a rant about how "disgusted" you are with people, you should clearly stipulate in your opening post that you can only handle replies that are 100% in agreement with yourself and that you tend to completely overreact when someone disagrees with you?

It will certainly save us the bother of replying to you in the future

    @OP

    what a dummy!
  • Slithgly OT but what sort of doctor "medically advises" a dummy?! My DS was 9lb 8oz, had a very strong sucking reflex and wanted to feed every 2 hours from the moment he was born. Didn't use a dummy as I didn't like the thought of weaning him off it as he got older, simply endured 6 weeks of sleep deprived torture when he was a newborn that many parents go through then he settled down and got into a routine.

Know what you're saying. I used these with my baby, only bought them 6wks ago, had no idea they would be discontinued until I couldn't find any in the shops. So have now given up and she does self settle. If she hadn't then I'd have just kept on buying different sorts until we found one she would take. Thankfully she's quite happy with boobs. At least I know that she's not going to loose one when we're out however its a bit trickier if she wants pacifying in the middle of town:rotfl:

The new ones are vastly different, according to the Tommee Tippee website the new ones have been designed with a childrens orthodonist to be better for teeth development and consequently the old ones are no more. Some doctors do advise dummies, my daughter had reflux and a dummy was advised as a way of satisfying her suck instinct without her actually taking any milk which would cause the reflux to make her sick. Thankfully it wasn't too bad and she has now developed her sucking so she is able to pacify herself without taking milk on the boob. Tiring, yes. Demanding, yes. But parenthood was never meant to be easy!

I understand its business and you can't really knock people trying to make a few quid, however I can't help but hope that people are as inherantly tight as me and refuse to pay such ludicrous amounts of money for a dummy and the sellers are left with loads of the things.
