Disgusted - Ebay sellers

I am sorry for this rant but i am absolutely disgusted at people on Ebay and their ability to drain parents of their money on an item that could possibley be a parents saving grace.

My 4mth old son uses the tommee tippee closer to nature soothers and they have just been discontinued for whatever reason, and for those that have a stash have jumped on the bangwagon of selling them for stupid money on ebay. They are £2.99 in the shops and there are people on Ebay doing a buy it now of £18.99 with £1.80 P&P i understand those that are on auction and its upto how much people are willing to pay for them are going for silly price too.

But how can those people with buy it nows for that kind of price (£10-20) sleep at night its totally wrong to use what can possibly be one thing that can soothe a baby to their advatage its a disgrace!!

It's called business, supply and demand. Your argument should be with the manufacturers who had stopped production, not those who were canny enough to buy up stock and sell it on.

  • i have no problem with stocking up and selling on yes that is business but to mark up at nearl £20 is a little excess dont you think!! and then to have the check to charge P&P i just think is inmoral

Forgive me if I misunderstand as I know nothing at all about dummies as I never ever had one in the house, but looking at the Tommee Tippee range there are similar shaped dummies, would any of these be suitable? If you could use one of the ones that TT say are replacements then the sellers lose out on ebay as no one will want the old model.

  • yes i swore when i had my little boy i was never going to give him a dummy but after finding he had a stong sucking reflex the GP recommended i give him one. since finding out that they have been discontinued i have since brought the new replacements and similar types all to find that they are different either with nodules on them or a different shape completely, and it just upsets my little boy so although they are the replacements are nothing like the others. Never mind i had to rant at those selling at silly prices i know its business doesnt mean i have to like it does it?

Following on from the Oasis tickets thread earlier today, are soother touts the new ticket touts?

There must be people out there willing and/or desperate enough to pay that money for them, else people would not be selling them at that price. And that goes for anything selling for over market value - tickets, Wiis, Kate Moss topshop clothes etc.

Not being an expert on these things either, I've got to ask what did people do before these soother things were invented?

It's also seen threads on here regularly about people who buy things from charity shops or boot sales, or even brand new, use them for a while, resell them on ebay for a massive mark up, and everyone goes :T

    Why does that happen then...?!

I'm sorry I am about to make a very OT statement, but I have a picture in my head now of half the regulars on here grabbing their coats and hot footing it off to the shops to see if they can track down any of these soothers.

Keep up with the alternative. He'll get over it.

    How old is he?

I'd sell one for £4000 if I could find someone stupid enough to pay it. You're not telling me a properly reared baby will know or care what brand of soother it uses, only an unpleasantly indulged one. The fault lies with airhead parents who think designer items festooned over their kids lend them reflected status.
  • lol well if you find any you know there is someone willing to buy them from you at a reasonable price!

I think steve before soothers many mums were able to stay at home and breastfeed on demand, but nowadays mums have to go back to work earlier and so have to wean off breastfeeding and find an alternative to soother via a dummy.

I had something similar with my first boy, proper little sucker he was. He would only have a particular cherry dummy and refused anything else. In the end we had to put up with his outrage and he got used to a new design and had it til he was 3 (ouch) was glad when no. 2 didn't want one!
