  • Just to record that on 31 December my KE account was finally credited with the duplicate £20 that was deducted from the original withdrawn amount from October. The entry on the statement actually shows that this was refunded on 9th October, but I know for a fact that this entry was not on the statement until 31 December. How this can be acceptable from an auditing point of view I don't know.

Anyway, I have now been fully paid up with the "missing" interest and both CHAPS fees. I have withdrawn the remaining balance and closed the accounts and can now put the whole sorry debacle behind me.

Many thanks for all the support I received from the people on this site during those dark days when my life savings were floating around in cyberspace. I shall stick to UK banks from now on (the few there are still left, that is).

Good luck and Happy New Year to all.
  • Yesterday I got the following message through the Secure Messaging on Kaupthing website....

"I have spoken to our head office and they have advised that they are still investigating the location of the £700. They have advised me that they are continuing to do everything they can to resolve this issue. As soon as they have any information they will be back in contact with you."

This is a bacs transfer done on 25th Sep 2008 !!!!

I give up .. I just want to get the missing money and close my Kaupthing / ING account forever and ever !!! Utterly utterly useless
  • Flipping heck, people are still waiting for money from KE?
  • It seems like Lloyds TSB have taken over the utterly useless award. Someone from KE phoned me yesterday and asked me to phone Lloyds TSB customer call centre, which I did and it took three calls to be told that I had to speak to my branch, but there was no direct line number for them and they couldn't put me through as it was after 4.30 p.m. and the branch was shut. The call centre took my details and promised me that someone from the branch would ring me this morning - no phone call. I phoned the call centre again and they put me through to the branch. I was then told by some at the branch (who incidently had 30 yrs experience in banking), that the call centre had got it wrong as they weren't experienced and didn't know what they were talking about.

I commented that it didn't give me much confidence in Lloyds TSB if she thought the call centre personnel were "up to the job" - it was laughable to hear her trying to take back her comments.

After all this is sorted I think it's time to look for another bank for my current account - any ideas??
