Money, suddenly and without warning arrived back from its trip, which started on 13th October, around cyber space back into my KE Account.
Call centre say that ING did not give a reason why my destination bank returned it. This means that my wife and I are now both in the same situation.
Now perusing the "Distress and Inconveience Guidelines" issued by the FSO and will be seeking appropriate compensation.

Frankly, I’m happy just to get my capital back, if I can also get the interest and BACS charges refunded, great!

I find it hard to thank ING for their efforts, so I wont, albeit I’m content
  • I received a phone call last evening from Allister Hemmings, he could not tell me anything concrete but at least it shows they are still working on the MSE 23.

Well into five weeks waiting now for a consideable sum.

    Good luck for today 2little2late
  • Hi,

I wonder if this is the right place but I have received an email from the Administrators telling me that the FTD account I opened a few weeks ago with KE has been closed.

Your application for a Kaupthing Edge fixed term deposit account
As you may be aware, Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Limited (the Company) was placed into administration pursuant to a court order on 8 October 2008. Also on 8 October 2008, the FSA issued a First Supervisory Notice which came into effect at 1.30pm, prohibiting the Company from accepting any customer deposits.
Pursuant to the “Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Limited Transfer of Certain Rights and Liabilities Order 2008” any Kaupthing Edge Savings Account and Kaupthing Edge fixed term deposit account that was already opened at the time of the administration transferred to ING Direct N.V., Reading branch (ING Direct).
Unfortunately, due to IT systems that we were unable to disable, the apparent ability to apply for a Kaupthing Edge fixed term deposit account could not be removed from the Kaupthing Edge website until 6 November 2008. Our records indicate that you have attempted to open a Kaupthing Edge fixed term deposit account after 8 October 2008.
As Kaupthing Edge was not permitted to accept any deposits, your application in respect of the fixed term deposit account cannot be processed. We will be arranging to credit back to your Easy Access Savings Account with ING Direct the principal amount of funds that you have attempted to place into the Kaupthing Edge fixed term deposit account. We understand that given your attempt to open a new fixed term deposit account could not be processed, these funds will be treated as never having left your Easy Access Savings Account so you will not lose any interest on your Easy Access Savings Account as a result.

    Yours faithfully

    on behalf of the
joint administrators of Kaupthing Singer & Friedlander Limited (in administration)
(acting as agent of the Company and without personal liability)

The money has been transferred back to my savings account! Had they told me that I couldnt do this weeks ago I would have put my money into an ING FTD account.

Anyone else in the same boat? Told the Ombudsman today and seems I'm the first person to raise it with them.
  • I noticed this on another thread this morning, and although it's not really relevant to this thread, it's yet another example of how dishonourable the whole ING bank is.

Even if the excuse were true, the bank should have taken the hit, not the customer.

Somehow I think that from previous lies told by ING, this is yet another.

    Hi,

What was the actual date you tried to open the FTD account?
  • Hi folks,

Am trying hard to get some new info off ING today, will let you know as soon as we have anything.

Can i check - is it still the 23 people left? and is there a pattern on when/how you tried to withdraw your money? e.g. same date/used Chaps

Am now extremely angry. I posted my driving licence details and bank statement to KE to get my bank sort code altered. Guess what - they DO NOT accept the old-style driving licence without the photo. Apparently they need a photo ID. If these old driving licences are not acceptable then the government should scrap them.:mad:

    Unbelievable!!

What on earth do they need photographic ID for - are they going to send someone knocking on your door to check you against the photograph?

I can fully understand why you're furious.
