New Kaupthing CHAPS/BACS Transfers discussion - Friday 24th October

Don't forget the earlier comment a couple of pages ago from one poster that KE staff told him they are watching this board and are getting miffed at some of the negative comments about them!!!
There's a story in today's Daily Mail about some guy who gave negative feedback following poor service he received from an Abbey call centre. Days later this guy found out that the call centre operator had taken personal offence over the matter, and set about causing absolute mayhem on his account.
It was fear of something like that happening to me that led me to be very cautious about what I said on this forum about KE and ING staff, even though I could tell straight away they are largely a bunch of useless toss-pots who fail to honour promises, and make up pathetic excuses for their inaction.
Believe me, I have been holding back and biting my lip for three weeks, I am fuming inside, just relying on a bit of humour here and there for stress relief.
I don’t hold the staff responsible at all. It’s the people at the top handing down the orders I am bewildered by. All they have to do is keep us informed with the truth. I have only printed the facts. If the cap fits etc.
I don’t see how they could detect which posters are which customers. If someone did hold up paying back a customer's savings out of spite, I would advocate dragging them through every court in the land. We are the victims not the perpetrators.0 -
When/If this sorry mess is all over we should all get one of those Pizza Express vouchers and go to our local branch and at an agreed time raise a toast to Martin and Dan!0

Saver still waiting for £24,000Kaupthing Edge was the UK arm of Kaupthing
A saver is still waiting for a £24,000 transferral from the UK arm of an Icelandic bank to appear in his bank account three weeks after making it.
Rhys Livsey, 29, from Cardiff, withdrew the money from Kaupthing Edge a day before it was taken over by ING Direct after a financial crisis in Iceland.
In an email the company told Mr Livsey his money "had been held up".
A spokesman for ING Direct said the administrators were working on clearing payments from prior to the takeover.
Mr Livsey, who works as a PA to Torchwood and Doctor Who star John Barrowman, told BBC News he had decided to move his money, a total of £24,067, after reading some reports of problems with the bank on the internet.
He made the transfer to another account on 6 October, and the money cleared from his Edge instant access savings account on 7 October, but has failed to arrive in his account.
Kaupthing Edge, an online UK subsidiary of Iceland's Kaupthing bank, was taken over by ING Direct on 8 October, and guaranteed all the deposits held in the bank.Whenever I phone them, they're just fobbing you off
Rhys Livsey
Mr Livsey has telephoned the company at least twice a week to find out what is happening with the money, but says he has only been given a standard response, rather than one looking specifically at his situation.
He said: "I get the impression they know the money isn't going to get through. I just feel there isn't much I can do.
"Whenever I phone them, they're just fobbing you off. They say they're trying to trace the money and they'll get back to you in a couple of days.
"One girl did get back to me but she couldn't tell me anything."
Delays
After a further phone call on Wednesday, Mr Livsey received an email which stated: "Regrettably I have to inform you that the recent transaction from your Kaupthing Edge Account to your nominated linked account has been identified as being held up."
The company added they were working with a clearing bank to release the money, and stressed the money was "safe", promising to refund the loss of interest caused by the delay.
However, Mr Livsey said he had had assurances before that the money would be released and it had not been.
He has also asked the bank to advance him a proportion of the money, but that has not happened.
"I wouldn't mind if I could just get a grand (£1,000) on it," he said.
"I pay for things on credit card and pay it off at the end of the month so there's about a four-week delay, but I'm starting to run short of money," he added.
He also wanted to know if they would pay any charges if he ran into overdraft as a result of the delay, but the company said he could only send a complaint once the problem had been resolved and they would look at it then.
A statement on ING Direct's website posted on Wednesday evening said: "There are still outstanding payments that need to be resolved and the majority involve payments originally requested between the 6-8 October.
"This was at the time when the company went into administration and before the transfer to ING Direct happened.
"The administrator tells us that these payments are now being made and we will be working with them to clear these final payments." A spokesman for ING Direct said he could not give an actual timescale for payment.ING/KE Debacle

I'm giving the Online Court Service's "Money Claim Online" procedure to try to recover my money and seek compensation for this abuse of trust.
It looks relatively straightforward, low cost and you can name the Chief Executive of ING as defendant.
Some of the statements put out in his name will be difficult to defend. And he doesn't have a defence against refusing to pay what he owes his customers from ING funds now, making internal KE/ING balancing later.
The BBC is running the story and more media will be getting involved today.
Our £70,000 life savings are still missing and KE/ING will not say when we will get our money.0 -
Just phoned them up... their promise of 48 response by phone was the crappy email everyone else (i assume) has had...
Usual waffle on the phone, some rubbish about another 48 hours...
Some payments are going through today apparently... (yeah ive heard that for the last 3 weeks mate)..
What next, can I make this a criminal matter? Theft.. courts? etc...

Just checked my KE account and have the following secure message:
Further to our recent telephone conversation. I''m pleased to inform you that we have tracked your recent transaction and can confirm that the funds will be credited to your nominated linked account by close of business on Friday 31st October.
The reason for the delay was that the transaction was held up at the clearing bank. It has now been released for payment as outlined above.
We would like to apologise again for this delay and the inconvenience caused
Yours Sincerely
Karl Statham
So it wasn't ING/KE all along it was my nasty clearing bank - how convenient!?!? Odd how the same clearing bank allowed another payment to go through on the same day.
CHAPS 07/10 15k, received 07/10, CHAPSx2, 1 refunded
CHAPS 07/10 30k, received 30/10, CHAPSx1, 1 refunded
Told clearing bank rejected payment - both payments to same linked account0 -

I might give that a go as well.. whats the cost? I cant seem to find it?
I seem to recall its something like £20...
oh one more thing, I did a BACS transfer last Friday... for £80 (my remaining balance before the chaps refund).. it appeared in my account yesterday... :rolleyes:0 -
I waited until 20/10 when I thought it would be safe to withdraw the bulk of my money. The BACS transfer was actioned, immediately removing the money from my Kaupthing Savings account. When the money didn't appear in my bank account I then discovered that the 20th was the last day included in the "missing payments" period. I have been on the phone to Kaupthing 3 times now and have been getting the usual delaying messages - 48 hours, spreadsheet, administrators etc. They didn't contact me as promised to let me know what is happening, so I told them I will ring every couple of days until I see the money. If I had waited another day to withdraw the money, I wonder if it would have been OK. The only upside is at least they answer the phone and you get to speak to someone reasonable.0

Has anyone considered approaching a solicitor to see if there's any chance of a County Court summons against ING for defaulting on the return of customers' money within a reasonable timescale. For sure all this farting around talking to the front line scapegoats at KE is not achieving much, except generating more excuses and extended timetables. I also doubt that the media is interested sufficiently to take up the matter big time, which is why the administrators here are simply watching developments. The Financial Ombudsman is a waste of space and taxpayers' money. If it's possible to issue a summons it's the kind of thing that should secure a quick response from the useless buffoons in ING. For any individual I guess the problem is one of initial expense and then what to do if your money turns up. That's why a group action is probably the best way forward, but that too would seem to involve a lot of organising which could be very difficult with so many people probably looking for a free ride at others' expense. Anyway, it's just a thought. Thankfully, I got my money out but I feel very concerned for the rest of you.0
