If there's a section to leave a delivery message, I always put on it 'if I'm not in, please leave with any neighbour'. I don't care which, or whether I know them. It's a lot easier to collect from a neighbour than to rearrange delivery or go to a depot.

or alter your delivery address details along the lines of

    Mr Joe Blogs
    22 My place street
    (Or a Neighbour)
    Any City
    Le12 1LE

Then there is no mistake that they had instructions what to do if no-one is home at time of delivery.

The problem you have are drivers who dont want to waste time finding a neighbour who is in, then have to return to your door to post a card through saying where it was left.

I usually have a great delivery guy who is sweet and funny and knocks really hard so we always hear him.

Unfortunately we had a package delivered by DHL on Thursday when we weren't in, he left a card saying we had to pick it up at the depot or ring to arrange another delivery, the note even had a map showing where to find them. I sent DH off to pick it up for me yesterday morning, whilst he was heading there DHL decided to redeliver without me requesting a redelivery so poor DH had a very wasted journey. It was nice of them to redeliver but I do wish they had let us know first.

Was awaiting delivery of my new tv today - delivery slot - anytime - was meant to receive a call last night saying actual time of delivery, no call. hurtled out of house with dogs dragged them round the park at break neck speed, missed a call at 8.30am saying item would be delivered in 20 mins, my son did his paper round as fast as pos, but then disaster I got caught by an elderly neighbour who talked for Scotland, result missed delivery by 5 mins (son) 10 mins (me). If only they'd called last night like they said they had (not) and if only I could be rude to the elderly! answer phone message from driver said ' I have knocked on your door and obviously you are not up so I can't deliver the TV, please rearrange delivery' not up!!!!!!!! huh! rang his mobile and despite him being down the road he couldn't turn round as he'd already informed HO that I was out! boo hoo! coming wednesday now, dogs can walk themselves and I'm not speaking to a soul.

Have been awaiting a package being sent by Parcelfarce. Apparently it has been delivered, to my name, but whose signature it is I have no idea! No card was left through my door, as to who it has been left with. I have emailed them, but as yet no reply "as they're very busy at this time of year". Well aren't we all? So now I have to become detective to find out where package has been delivered.

This was the second such incident for me last week. The second one was even worse as I'd paid for next day delivery, to cut a very long story short it was delivered to a neighbours, but was actually addressed to them with my name on it. So was the suppliers fault, have emailed them to get cost of delivery funded, as it was their fault, not mine or the couriers. Good job my neighbours were honest, shame they didn't know my surname. Took 4 days to solve that one, and get my goods.

Surprise the supplier has not bothered to get back to me!
  • I also used to be a supervisor at citylink and worked there for many years, i hve to say generally they are VERY good and if one of our drivers had delivered to a neighbour without permission he would have been hung drawn and quatered! The main problem with citylink is that the drivers are treated like dirt and have to work many many hours to get a decent wage so driver retention is often a problem. Also citylink wont deliver where YOU tell them to - its has to come from the sender
:D I understand ALOT more than I care to let on :D
  • This is a bit of long one - sorry!

Ordered from Amazon, delivery was scheduled with Parcel Force. I work, so I was out when they delivered and left a card. However, they offer a re-delivery to a Local Post Office for 50p. I called up and arranged a delivery to a local post office, although they wouldn't deliver to my nearest as they said it wasn't listed.

I went to the nominated Post Office three times right up to closing time and no parcel. Called and was told there had been a mistake, but that they could redeliver the next day - this time they said that the post office I had been given the day before wasn't available, but the one I had originally wanted was now available. So I asked for that one. Odd

That night I sent a complaint email to Amazon. Probably jumping the gun, but I was desperate for the goods as I was about to go on holiday and that is what the parcel was for - I only had one day left. The next day comes and I am all ready to go to the post office and I get an email that tells me that Amazon have arranged for the goods to go to the first post office again! I called Parcel Force and asked where the goods were going - they just told me to visit both just n case. So I had to visit both Post Offices. Neither Post Office had the parcel. Again I had to keep popping in on the off chance......but no parcel.

I live in the country so a "local" post office isn't actually very local and all this travelling around totalled about 25- 30 miles and included sneaking out of work (I have an understanding boss fortunately). When I complained to Amazon they admitted that the parcel was lost in the system somewhere and they couldn't guarantee when it would be delivered as they had to find it first. Naturally, I cancelled my order and give Amazon their due they credited me straight away.

I originally thought that the service that ParcelForce were offering with a redirect to a local Post Office was an excellent idea - I've now changed my mind.

Just recently I have found a couple of companies that allow delivery to an address other than that on the credit card used. This means I can deliver to work and I get my goods safe and sound. I shall stick to them in future

Someone mentioned a delivery driver who bangs on door and calls through the letterbox..............So what? If there is someone in they should get up to answer the door or if they are not prepared to do so they should not buy items and arrange for delivery by post/courier.

If there is no one in, then the driver calling through the letterbox is not going to be of concern to anyone because there is no one in!

And if you expect a delivery You can imo expect that delivery anytime from 7AM - 6PM if you don't like it don't order.

I wouldn't want a parcel left on the doorstep. With a neighbour is fine, as long as they leave a card stating where the parcel is, unlike UPS a couple of days ago who left a parcel with a neighbour (great) but no card so we though the delivery hadn't turned up.
but is taken straight back to the depot where you can either pick it up or pay for another delivery attempt.
Not so good with cowboys outfits like the one formerly known as White Arrow (Windscale style name change possibly). They only have two depots covering the whole of Scotland and are closed on a Saturday and Sunday.
Delivery companies are a pain but what is the solution?
Perhaps they could all strike a deal with the Post Office to offer the same service as Parcel Force (yes, I know they're related), where the package can be delivered for collection from your local PO for a 50p surcharge?

In all honesty, I'd pay a small premium for all my deliveries to be sent by Royal Mail or Parcel Force, as we're rarely at home for deliveries, but at least we can collect failed deliveries from the PO or sorting office in our own town. Collecting from any other carrier's depot involves a round trip of between 20 and 70 miles.

My friend had a parcel due for delivery while she was on holiday. It didn't arrive while she was away (she had our other friend going in to check for the 'missed you' cards for her) so she got in touch with Amazon about it etc.

It eventually turned out that the postie had left the package on their recycling bin, on recycling day, had not put a card through the door and £60 worth of DVD's had gone to the recycling depot.

Amazon eventually replaced it, but it was a long hard struggle!

Got one now who is great (contractor for City Link I think) makes most deliveries between 07:00 - 08:00 hammers hell out of the door, and even shouts through the letter box for me to get out of bed....I open the door to be welcomed with a big smile and "Good Morning Sir, Didn't wake you up did I" I prefer a courior who gets to know his customers over those that just see a number and post code

Yea right, and I suppose we are also just expected to sit and wait in all day just because the place we ordered it from said it would be delivered the following day, I presume you dont order much for delivery, so have not been kept waiting because the courior failed to turn up.

Having to wait in all day for a delivery that does not show cost some of us money.
