Stupid delivery driver!!

Got up nice and early today so I would definatley hear the door for my hubbys pressie that was supposed to be being delivered today. I paid lots for next day delivery by Inital City Link.
By half nine, it had not arrived so I thought I'd track it on the website. Got a shock when it said it was delivered at 9.05 and signed for by Alexander! Thats not me, so I phoned up the delivery company, who said I wasn't in (a lie!) so they delivered it to no.27 (I'm no 28). If they had in fact tried and I didn't answer, why didn't they give it to my next door neighbour, who was in, whos door is next to mine??
That would be fine if they weren't people I've never met, who becuase of the layout of the street, live a fair few hundred yards away!
Just been round there now to claim my parcel, but no ones in
I wonder if I'll ever get it back!

Delivery drivers these days are getting awful.
I've had a couple of things just left outside with a "no-one was in" card through the door (even though my wife WAS in). Luckily it hadn't started raining or nobody nicked it.
A little while ago we ordered something from Next and were out when it came, so the driver left it for safekeeping.... in our wheelie bin!! I'm glad it wasn't a thursday as the bin men would have come and emptied it! That would've been fun to sort out I'm sure.0 -
I don't see why any of these delivery companies consider leaving your property with some stranger who just happens to live nearby a completion of their contract to deliver the item.
I've never seen this stupid idea in the terms and conditions of websites when I have ordered stuff for delivery.
-WebSense is not common.0 -
Indeed. They are on extremely thin ground legally.
If something doesn't arrive, complain to the company you bought it from and let them handle the in-between stuff with the delivery company. It's up to the company you bought it from to unravel the mess and loss caused by their contractor (the delivery company). If this kind of thing happens enough, then they'll use a different delivery company, or the delivery company will find themselves paying so much compensation they will change their ways.0 -
Citylink are always very adamant that they cannot and will not deliver to any other address than that given for delivery by the sender of the parcel - I know, cos I've asked them loads and loads of times - they will only do it if you fill in the yellow card they leave through your letterbox if you're not in and stick it to your front door for when they attempt delivery again (naturally advertising to everyone going past that you're not home ...)

I used to work for city-link (not as a driver I was supervisor in the office) and I know for a fact that they are NOT allowed to leave goods with neighbours unless the SENDER has written instructions on the package to do so , nor are they allowed to leave it in a safe place . If I was you I would contact head office who take a dim view of this , via the website . As for why he left a card when you were in ... didn't you know delivery drivers re especially trained in tip-toeing and silent knocking?? its part of the training when you start :snow_laug0

Will get on to them when I get home. Think is, they didn't even leave a card!
I was sooo tired, but I still got up at 7:00am (I'm usually in bed till lunch) to wait for the delivery! I have missed them before when they knock really quietly, so I sat in the living room, with the hall door open so I could see if they came. I didn't even have the telly on incase I couldn't hear them!0 -
OK so reading through the lines, it's fairly obvious the driver knocked on the house next to No.27 thinking it was yours No.28, no answer so delivered to N.27.
Clues leading to this assuption
No knock heard
No card left
Did not attempt delivery to the most obvious alternative house (your nextdoor).
Is "Initial city link" the same compny as "city link" ?
things to do.
Phone them and ask why they delivered to a stranger without your permission.
Ask their policy on delivering to next doors? Bring up this thread if they say they do.
Ask why the driver did not attempt delivery to your physical nextdoor as opposed to your numerical counterpart who is some disatance away....suggest the reason is that your driver had the wrong house in the first place.
Now I happen to think making a song and dance about delivery to other neighbours is silly (as long as you get your parcel in unopened condition), because it all helps to make the world go round, (I regularly accept parcels for my neighbours, I even go out and say "They ain't in but you can leave it wiv me"). I can understand a courier company having a policy against this in this day and age of scam artists.0 -

Managed to get my parcel.
Got home from work to find a card through the door from the delivery company - which was not there earlier. On it, scribbled in black marker pen, and barely illegible was "at 22".
I phoned the company to check before I went knocking on more doors, and they said it was definatley at no. 27. I went to no.27.
Guess what, not there. It was at 22, a lovely little old lady took it in for me.
Luckly contents are fine despite there being a 2 inch by 5 inch hole in the box. It is very battered. I am waiting for a call back from the manager at Intial City Link, and will get on to the company in the morning.
All I wanted was my parcel - which is important to me - to be delivered in the condition I expect, and to be delivered to me first!0 -
I had that problem last week with Amtrak, delivering a coffee table. The driver buzzed the doorbell and walked off. We live in a block of flats and in the 5 seconds it takes to run to the door (main door too!) and answer it, they had gone. I hate it that delivery people presume that people are at work.
Got the table today though, all lovely!

I've used Initial City Link for a while now and had good service. Once though they managed to deliver a parcel to the wrong address. This only became apparant when my customer phoned me to complain about it not arriving. After phoning the courier they promptly went back to where they had deleivered it to retrieved the parcel and took it to where it was supposed to go.
They were very apologetic and it has only happened once. I'd say they were a good company.
Not like Interlink who I used to use. What annoyed me about them was on several occassions I would phone them at say 2pm and ask for a parcel to be collected from me only to be told that the driver had already passed by my area so it was too late. I would then get in the car and drive the parcel to the depot. On route I would see the driver going about still in my area less than a mile away from me. So basically very little effort put in to provide a service. The main trunk doesnt leave the depots till around 6pm. With Initial City Link I've had stuff picked up at 5pm.0
