Morning all
Haven't been around for a couple of days because I've been busy...I thought when I retired things would slow down a little...but they haven't. I must admit though I did feel very lost for the first few weeks, but now am managing to fill my time up.
Went shopping with my little sis and bought some stocking fillers for the GC. It was good to spend time with her, as she lives down South now. She treated me to lunch..so that was OS for me...but not for her
Yesterday I spend most of the day dotting between all the GC babysitting, while DD1 and DD2 went to School Harvest Festivals and Parents Evenings and I looked after the little ones. 'Abundant' Harvest Festival and 'Well done' Parents Evening...so am very proud of them all.
DD3 called home at dinner to find me cutting up plastic bags to knit another bag...she thought I was nuts!but no doubt she will like the finished result and want one herself!
That's it really...we had an OS tea...leftover fish pie with fresh veg...it was lovely to sit and eat with it with DH...I miss him at this time of year when they're lifting potatoes and its 12 hour days for him. We've been married 34 years...hope it's still the same in another 34
Have a lovely day everyone and hugs to all who need them or just fancy one anyway:DA family that eats together, stays together

Morning all, bright but chilly here today. Caught up with washing and ironing yesterday and house is tidy,DD actually bottomed her bedroom last night, miracles will never cease!!! Must do mealplan today as i will be off to Asda this evening, so will just have a use up day out of the freezer.
Going to have a look at switching gas and electric as i got the letter from Atlantic stating that their price rises are being backdated to August. What a cheek, i thought you had to be notified of price increases in advance!!
Well off to take little dog out now, have a nice day BSB xx

Glad Take care of yourself chuck you work too hard maybe this is a result
Lovely blue sky here today but bloomin freezing! Still havent given in to the central heating yet but it may beat me this week I suspect.
VAT day for me today which should be done quite quickly due to a distinct lack of business atm ah well at least there's one bonus:D
Got a big bag of parsnips yellow stickered to 30p in Asda yesterday so I am going to construct a curry soup in the SC (stop it with the applause please if you dont mind:p) I also got 10 bananas for 35p so if nothing else I will be regular over the next few days:rotfl: :rotfl: The large bar of white chocolate and bag of jelly beans were unfortunately not yellow stickered but are required for VAT purposes:cool:
Have a good day all0 -
THanks for the welcome, HH and TL - I've been reading your wartime experiment thread, and it's fascinating! I'm very interested in WWII and also keen on forties fashion, so DD and I have been doing a lot of reading and museum trips etc to do with WWII, and I must say I've been very inspired by it all, esp Nella Last's War, which I've just started from the library.
Forgot a couple of other things I managed to do yesterday:
When I was making the wedge mix (inspired by looking at a bottle of fancy schmancy Season-All spice mix and thinking 'I have those things at home, excellent!') I realised I had mistaken the unopened bottle of cayenne for an unopened bottle of paprika and had actually run out of paprikaSo, went for a late night walk to Tesco (bit scary round here, but the roads are big and well lit so not that bad) and picked up some rather pricey paprika, but also spotted and loitered next to a young man* marking down about a million chocolate-covered apples-on-sticks (!) and when he'd gone I grabbed 3 bags of salad for a total of 50p - meant to put one in the stock pot actually, but forgot, but yay, lots of salad today!
Also managed to convince DD to actually put on a jumper rather than have the heater on, admittedly she was only swayed because I said her voice-activated Dalek - a birthday present from her dad- would not understand her due to the noise, but still!
Have had a look at the stock pot and it looks/smells fantastic! Now to strain it... Am planning to save most of the veg bits to mash into it for the thick gravy.
*listen to me! I'm not even 30 for a few more days...DFW stats:

Hiya everyone,
just having a quick catch up whilst i drink my cuppa to warm myself up, BRRRR! i was very wrong this morning when i said it didn`t seem cold outside - it`s absolutely bloomin freezing! i found this out when i went outside to hang the washing on the line, i doubt that it will dry.
The houndies have been walked and are both now fast asleep so all is quiet here.
This morning i discovered that the marmalade i made has now set so Mr Sunnyday opened a jar and i must say it`s absolutely gorgeous! i can taste every fruit and it`s very tangy - definitely worth the extra effort, i feel inspired to make some more now, thanks for everyone who helped and sent pm`s to let me know where i was going wrong :A
I made yogurt recently and had a go at turning some of it into soft cheese, i`ve just taken it out of the hanky that i lined the funnel with before standing it in a jug in the fridge and i`m very pleased with the results, i`ll be off down the garden soon to cut some chives to add to it and maybe a bit of garlic too. For the price of one small pot of greek yogurt and one carton of skimmed cheap milk i now have 4 yogurts and a tub of soft cheese so i`m very happy.:D
I`m back in the kitchen shortly to tidy up and make a marinade for the pork for tomorrows dinner which will be oriental pork and egg noodles which is one of our favourites, tonights dinner is cottage pie which is already made and in the fridge waiting to be warmed up later. I`m on late shift now so it will be very welcome tonight.
This morning i finished altering the first pair of curtains and they are now hung and look ok, not perfect as they are not the colour i had in mind (cream) they are a sort of warm coppery colour and don`t really look out of place but it`s money saved in the long run. When i`ve got around to altering the other pair i shall take them down and iron them all before re-hanging them and then i can search for the tie backs. I`ve already decided that if i can find some nice hooks i shall fasten them to the wall with no-more-nails instead of drilling any more holes
Essex girl - ((((HUGS)))) for you and your family, sorry to hear of your loss.
Anwen - Hello and welcome :hello:

SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all,
Essex girl....sorry to hear of your loss...be thinking of you.
Welcome Anwen.
Bought three and a half pounds of lamb neck this morning for €5....suitable dinner for to-day as it is very cold if sunny...have to go out so can't leave stew on as my new gas hob doesn't do simmer, might put it in oven on low heat while I am gone.
Hugs to all in need or want, congratulations to all who are celebrating

Good Morning
Belated birthday wishes to Joannas Mum:bdaycake:
(((Essex Girl))) Sorry to hear about your nanna Xxx
Thrift Lady, sounds like my DS1 has been taking lessons from your daughter, I get the same response when I ask where his school shirts are, he has 5 of them, one for each day but insists he only has 2!!:rolleyes:
DS2 has gone back to school today, hurrah!! DS1 still at home, but its his last day of school today and then he has nearly 2 weeks off for half term. 2 weeks:eek: I'm waiting for a phone call from his support worker at school (he's autistic and in mainstream high school) so I cant do very much till I have spoken to her. Then its getting as much washing and drying done as poss, before the weather changes.
Brekkie was toast and weetabix, dinner will be cheese toasties, tea will be.. will have to check the menu plan, cant remember, hope its nothing to take out of the freezer.:D
xxI also remember the words of my friends, but I would rather have enemies than friends like youwould like to make it known that ZubeZubes avvy is a DHN, she's not dancing

Hi everyone
Thought I'd drop in here again after a longish absence. I can't believe how busy retired life is.
Yesterday was crazily hectic - well for me:
supervising large horse chestnut stump removal from garden
going to dentist (again);
taking car in to get punctured tyre replaced;
preparing a path through the garage for guys who're bringing three very large Himalayan Birches today;
mini-shop;
quick tea;
to local AmDram of 42nd Street with penninewoman
Then home and, eventually, bed.
And now, waiting for tree guys to arrive so we can get the birches planted to screen a monstrous detached house which has appeared at the bottom of our garden and now blocks most of our view across the Valley to the Pennine hills. :mad:
OK, we've got the planners to stop the build but getting it removed is going to be difficult!!
Have a good day everyone.Where now?0
