Welcome back Lamewolf. What was your experience of CBT? Today I was telling her that i don't do things unless I can see the point of it and that there may be some benefit. She said that I have to do experimental behaviours in order to change my thinking. Forget that! I'm not changing stuff like my routine, which has taken me two years to work out, on the off chance that it might do something good!!
Sorry to take so long to reply - only just got onto MSE site today, been playing catchup with my emails.

Anyway, various therapists (yes, I've been through the mill more than once) had me trying to do things in ways that were totally and utterly inappropriate for me (I'm a stubborn old bat) which just ended up making me angry, and worst of all, had me rake over past experiences that I'd carefully buried, which resulted in me having terrible nightmares for months afterwards.

It was particularly difficult in that I find it hard to trust people at the best of times, and anyone who does that sort of thing for a living automatically invites my suspicion.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • BZ, have been trying to think of some positives regarding having to move;
    1. You can have a good old clear out and sell stuff on ebay for a little extra pocket money
    2. You may get a winter let which will be cheaper
    3. Rents are really starting to drop and by the time you sign a new lease for somewhere they may be significantly lower.
    4. New place may be easier to heat than current one and logistics of layout easier.
    5. You can have a house warming party and invite all your Fibre mates!

Not trying to make light of it - you know my heart goes out to you, but silver linings and all that?

I hope that in a couple of days you will be able to say "Right, I won't let this beat me and I'll show them".

WB LameWolf. Hope you've had a lovely time with OH.

Natasha, have you asked GP whether you can take anything like Piriton with the Plaquenil? I had a terrible reaction to it which included being covered in mega-itchy hives. Everywhere!
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D
    My attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W
  • I wanted to hit the ground running today as I am sick, sick sick to the back teeth of liviing in mess. but ended getting started so late that I doubt I will get anything done today.
    Frustrated.

Time to call that agency regarding a cleaner, Auntie Axe?

Welcome to Pamaris  and again to BushBaby and NatashaSprite (I think you drop in and out randomly, if I'm right..?)

Yes I'm usually in the grabbit forum :j

Yes It was recommended to take antihistamine , I use just cheap anti allergy tablets Loratadine -non drowsy - my local chemist sell a box of 30 for about £2.99. My allergy has calmed now but I was considering taking anti histamine before bed so in the morning when I have a shower I would not react to the soap. I have also found using aqueous soap has helped.

The first counsellor I had 10 years ago tried reading out of a psychology text book (ok, he didn't physically have it in his hand at the time, but I was doing Psychology A level at the time and *knew* what he was referrencing) and that gave me *no* faith in him cos I knew as much as he did and I find that disturbing with anyone trying to fiddle with my brain. :D

This CBT woman can go take a running jump methinks. It keeps occuring to me that since I mentioned you lot on here helping me along, and she showed a keen interest in finding the forum, she might come on here and work out my psuedonym :o Eeek.

I just don't know how any health care professional, let alone someone who regularly works with people who suffer from Fibro and similar, can have such little empathy or (seemingly) understanding for what they deal with! Add to that that we blatantly have spent quite some time working out how we can or can't deal with the symptoms and the condition(s) and what works best for us, I just don't know how she can expect me/us to willingly just hand over all control to them in the vague hope that there might be some slight improvement?!:mad:

I don't get it. And I'm not on board. So thhhhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrupt! (Raspberry blowing)

  • Natasha, I'm a great believer in aqueous cream. The big generic tubs from Tescos are only about £3 and they were the only thing I could use when I had this reaction. Slather it all on in the bath and it cooled things down. You do get a bit sick of the smell though.
I got Loratadine on prescription - I'm not sure if they dispense more than 30 although I think I got a pack of 90, so you may find it cheaper to ask your GP for them?
Also, I found that organic olive oil soap didn't provoke a reaction and was quite soothing.
We all find things that work for us though and there's no guarantee that what works for one will work for another.

s/e, you are absolutely right (as always  ) about calling cleaner and I'm going to get her in for as many hours as takes to get things straight and then perhaps monthly after that. I will phone her as soon as I'm up tomorrow and that's a promise.
Possibility of having my flooring fitted at the end of this week too! :j

    It'll make a huge difference, I promise.

Coo, I hope your flooring looks as good as my new carpet once it's done.
