Well, I don't feel like I have much to contribute today. Feeling a bit detatched.

OH started at the hotel tonight. Really must get signed off at docs tomorrow and had his resi in tomorrow to the old job. Typically he forgot to print of his resi letter at bro's so couldn't drop it in yesterday. Plank. ;)

I know winter is supposed to be cold, but this is beyond cold!! I'm shivery freezing! Not good :(

Does anyone else have problems with fingernails breaking randomly? I used to have nails that I could turn screws with, but this week at least 3 of my nails have broken and I don't even know how! :(

  • Hey BZ, you've not got a temperature or a cold have you?
Sending big warm thought-hugs to keep you warm.

I'm afraid men just can't multi-task and soemtimes just walking and chewing gum at the same time can be challenging. *grin*

I'm afraid another "me too" here to the nails. Although I noticed mine got very weak and split when I went onto the steroids. If you're taking a steroidal-based anti-inflammitary pain killer this might do it too?

    Hope you feel better soon.

  • I'm very grateful for all the hlp you've all offered me, but I think I may contact Dial about filling in my DLA form. I just can't manage to get my head round it and if I'm not proactive, it will get left again like it has so many times before
No worries, mate. If you can get face to face help from someone who's got experience of filling in the forms, so much the better. I have to confess, that when I went to CAB with help in filling out my last IB form I came away feeling I could do a better job. Having said that, I'd already filled in 2 DLA forms and I used a lot of that information (in fact, if I remember correctly I sent a copy of my DLA form in with the IB form) to help.

There's no getting away from the fact that they're bluddy hard to do objectively, so a third party is often helpful. This is where taking time to write down all the symptoms and triggers is useful. But you do have to be brutally honest with yourself and that's not alway easy.

I'm with Auntie Axe - between the 'detached' feeling and not being able to get warm, that sounds like you're coming down with something. Or, it might just be that you've been overdoing it recently and this is your body's way of telling you to slow down a bit. I know I start to run a temp and feel fluey an' 'orrible when I've been trying to do too much.

Not since I started protecting my nails with nail varnish. My problem at the moment is that I got a bit carried away with the nail clippers the other week and now they're way too short and I'm really finding it hard to do a lot of the fiddly jobs that I tend to use my nails for. At the rate they seem to be growing at the moment, I might have a decent set of nails again by Easter. Gawd knows how people who chew their nails down to the quick manage.

Not got a cold/that I'm aware of...yet! I've had a bit of a sore throat in the mornings when I've woken up but I've been a little neglectful of my hydration  so it could just be that. It's is minus 1 right now and I've just had to drop OH off at the hotel.
Lol @ multitasking! That's why he has me ;)
Hmmm... steriods that's interesting... I've got a steriod mix inhaler for the asthma actually....Painkillers are cocodamol, diclofenac and tramadol (so no steriod, right?).

I have been doing more than usual lately, to be fair. And it is ridiculously bitterly cold. My house is naff heating wise (roll on la bungalow!) cos of all the high ceilings etc and I've spent a lot of time in the car or whatever rather than hunkering down in the warm the past few days. I've only been home for like 20mins and haven't worked up whatever it takes to drag myself upstairs to turn the heating on

My hair and nails grow pretty fast so I know they'll be back with me soon, it's just really annoying when I suddenly realise that half my nail is hanging off! I'm not used to it at all, so 3 in one week is a tad ridiculous.

  • BZ, you must turn the heating on if it's that cold. Do you have any blankies you can wrap round you on the sofa and maybe a hot water bottle?
If it's difficult for you to get upstairs to turn heating on, please do think about getting a heater for the living room - a halogen or such like? You can get them for about £15 and they cost pennies to run. At least you can put it next to you and that will take the edge off it.

I'll look up painkillers tomorrow probably to see if any are SAIDs, my head is hurting quite a lot tonight and I think a lot of it is from the neck strain.
I think I may have to go see doc tomorrow if it doesn't ease off. Not sure what she can do to help though. In the meantime, I'll take some Ami to see if that helps.

BZ - Make sure you keep toasty and warm with hot water bottle, blankets and hot drinks.

My nails snap off really low down, Ive tried loads of different nail strengtheners which help for about a week then stop. I'm embarressed about my nails they are really tatty

    Yes miss. ;)
I've traipsed upstairs and put the heating on now. I do have a gas fire in the living room but I can only rarely be @rsed to put it on. It's that whole getting on my hands and knees peering at the pilot light thing that puts me off. I have everything from boots to triple lined fleeced/jacket thing on, but hey... Hope it won't be long til OH finishes work so I can get comfy and settle down for the night.:)
I do have two or three blankies on/around the sofa for just such an occassion. I lie/sit on at least one as to provide a little warmth (the couch is cold leather) and padding.

Ring em in the morning, just to make sure. You never know, they may be able to do something - even if it's just a proper neck brace, that's gotta be a benefit, surely?
I know when OH's neck starts tensing up he gets terrible headaches too... and I'm the same.

  • Part of it's down to arthritis in neck from a nasty whiplash injury when I was in my teens. I know a collar is beneficial at times like this for me, but they hate to use them now as they prefer to keep the muscles active rather than immobilising them which can weaken them over time.

After the car accident, I was in a collar for 6 months as I had chipped a bone in my neck and no-one ever enlightened me to the fact that would inevitably end up with arthritis.

Zippy, I hate to sound like teacher, but getting too cold can do horrible things to us. For when you do need to put on gas fire, can you kneel on a cushion or get a garden kneeler to help? I must insist that you stay warm :p
