I don't shine my sink but I have tried to get in a habit of keeping it clear as it does help me feel more organised and less cluttered. There's nothing worse than trying to start cooking dinner with a sink full of stuff. It only takes a second to rinse something after you use it rather than have it sitting in the sink all day. And as soon as there's one thing left in the sink the whole family seems to feel it's ok to dump stuff in there - that's one thing flylady has right - clutter does breed clutter.

All those flylady emails drove me mad (especially as they were set for US time) but i do drop into her site from time to time for inspiration!

I have to say it does work more on a psychological level, at least for me. I hate now to go into the kitchen first thing in the morning and find pots from the night before and I did pick this up from the Flylady website because it's something I am sometimes still guilty of!

Most of the time though i realise that to put that bit of extra time in, no more than 5/10 minutes usually helps with the morning stress levels. I also have a rule that everything from a previous meal must be cleaned & put away before I start on the next, it saves a build up. :)

Yes, when I'm trying to get back into my good sorting, tidying routine, I always give the sink a good clean and shine the taps before I go to bed. I couldn't do all of flylady's suggestions...couldn't bear to walk around the house with my shoes on  .I'm a Sandy Shawer :D

Do use some of her tips though.

I don't do it everyday because DS is in charge of loading the dishwasher and cleaning the kitchen every night but I do it once a week usually on a Saturday and take the chance to clean it thoroughly and polish it with car polish.

I do clear the sink last thing every night - can't stand coming down to any dishes in there or on draining board in the morning!

I don't have a dishwasher, and every after meal I have to wash the dishes and dry them straight away - I like it clear. I also wash around the sink area and wipe the taps regularly - the reason is that everytime you use the tap, whether you are cooking or anything else germs collect. Just imagine if you are preparing raw meat and you turn on the tap, it has then got germs on!

I am particular with wiping down the surfaces also, aswell as the fridge handle etc. Oh and dish washing cloth - I replace it regularly.

I am not a manic cleaner or anything, but the kitchen area needs to be cleaned regularly in my view.

I clean mine while I'm waiting for the kettle to boil for my bedtime cup of tea - when I say clean, I mean make sure it's clear and wipe it round with a microfibre cloth - I don't get busy with polish or anything.
Usually as I move away from the sink to pour out the tea my DH arrives and dumps half a ton of assorted crud into my clean sink because it would kill him actually to open the dishwasher door and put stuff in...
I do swish and swipe my bathroom every day though - that IS a fantastic idea, because you then never need to clean it, bizarre though that may sound. I agree with other posters though - ultra shiny shinks and lace up shoes are not my thing either, but Flylady's other ideas DO definitely work - and I don't mind the emails - just note them as reminders and delete them - and go on the UK website to get them to come at the right time. Go for it - it's a great system!

flylady has a UK website? I used to get fed up with getting emails telling me to shine my sink and go to bed when I'd just got up.

So, which website did you go to to get them to come at the right time?

Do you know, as I wrote that I thought, someone's going to ask me where it is now and I'll have to go and look it up - and I was right! I got the link off here, funnily enough, on a different thread. Anyway, this is the link - you have to do the usual Yahoo Groups signing-up stuff and then you get just the reminders at the right time - you still get all the testimonials etc. from (original) Flylady. Let me know if the link doesn't work or if you have any problems.

Cheers ChocClare. I joined the other yahoo group, even googled the uk flylady without luck.

It did help a bit last time.

BTW, Just looked at one of the past messages:-

Are there 2 changes of clothes and a couple of sweaters in your
car? Do people keep spare clothes in their car?
