Apparantly if you log into Flyladies Yahoo groups there's a UK group you can join which gives you the emails in GMT rather than American time. Havent done it personally so not sure of the details, but saw a reference to it on her site recently. Hope it helps.

I tend to just ignore the time stamps anyway cos I'm working all day, just use them as a reminder to think about duing whatever it is when I get in.
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle

Personally I'm going to stick with http://organizedhome.com . I find it just as friendly as Ol'style and is defintely a "work at your own pace in a way that suits you" kind of place. I've been a member (and now I'm a moderator) there since Christmas 2000 when I wanted some guidance for organising Xmas with a baby. I've never looked back. :D We have loads of areas within the forums (declutter, organize, simplify, clean, aspire and a community centre), a total of 49256 members, 58188 articles and the greatest sense of community I've found on the net (excluding here)!

PLUS it has sister sites called ShesOrganized (not been there as I prefer a notebook but I've heard great things about it), Get Sew Organized (about organizing sewing projects/rooms and projects for you to do), Organized Scrapbooks (all about scrapbooking... not looked there yet but I'm thinking of taking it up as a hobby sometime in the future!) and Organized Christmas, (which deals with Christmas and other holiday related things all year round. Also including a Christmas Countdown - currently reading 349 days to go!).

There is NO email it's all onsite information that you are able to print for free and I really don't know how I would have got on with somethings if it wasn't for that site. Its my third home, my second being here. ;)

  • Nicki,

Flylady is actually based upon the SHEs system its just a different way of presenting it I think.

My Mum's been FLYing for a couple of years now and I'm taking it on slowly.
There's a UK FLYladyCoundown To Christmas thats just slowing down for the year and starts again in September, I've found this useful as it e-mails you once a week to give you hints on things you can do to make it easier in both time and money.

I agree that the e-mails are a bit overwhelming but I have found the book has helped, when you're not feeling too productive you can read the book and it gets you going again.

Now remember... You're not behind! :op

  • I haven't signed up but like to visit the site each weekday and follow the zone work and missions. Very weird of me but I find it comforting to think that thousands of others are also cleaning under the bed today!
Since DH has been off sick my routines have been overturned, so I needed something new to put in its place and found FlyLady very helpful for this. It gives me a focus, especially for much needed decluttering and breaking things down into 15mins has been empowering.
Oddly enough, the hardest thing I have found to do is taking a break after only 45minutes work! :D

LOL, DH thinks I am getting too organised because I acquired a filing cabinet for the gardening stuff, tool stuff and car stuff and I have a different drawer for each :D
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

  • I've signed up, but as I work and am really tired when I get home, and thus the house is in chaos, the 15 emails a day don't really help much as I just tend to file or delete them without reading alas. If there were just one or two emails a day it would be so much better and I'd be more inclined to actually read them and get motivated. I also really don't have time or the inclination to put on shoes (I hate wearing shoes indoors), shine sink etc anyway, just need help with the rest of the housekeeping.

I unsubscribed because the emails were doing my head in so I don't bother visiting the site now. TBH all that 'enthusiasm' the americans seem so good at make me want to :silenced: but each to their own. I'm sure lots of you will find it fab. In fact, may take a mosey over there, just to see if there's anything that may help me.....

i'm american and it does much the same to me ticklemouse :rotfl:

course, maybe that's why i've chosen to live in scotland for the last 7 years and have no intention of EVER moving back ;)

the ideas are good and if you use the website it can be very helpful

however be warned the email reminders are excessive
the flylady can be a bit...um...opressive
and the forums can become very very preachy which is what ultimately turned me off the whole lot, i was there for motivation to get the house clean not a sermon!

however, IF you can ignore those things it is a superb motivator

i still use the 15 minute clean up sessions and often find myself surpassing the time limit to 'just finish this last thing up' (think that's my competitve nature)

it's a bit like the tightwad gazette, very american, far too extreme for some BUT full of great motivational stuff if you care to take the time to pick and choose ;)

I have also recently joined Flylady, but have not been great at doing everything. For one thing, my DH is not keen on indoor shoes being worn in the house all the time, so I have not done that bit, but have been shining my sink -!

i work based from home and only put on 'nice' clothes when i have to go out so while i DO get dressed i only wear crappy old clothes she'd probably frown upon, but hey, saves loads of money and laundry too as i wear the same clothes for a few days unless i make a huge mess...
my nice clothes last for ages

i also save on laundry and paying for new shoes and hey, no crap on the carpet by NOT wearing my shoes or socks!

i can however understand the getting dressed thing, i feel like such a slob when i just bum around in my dressing gown, and i do find i get less done so i put my sweats and a tshirt on first thing when i get up then straight to the computer to read my emails and get on with work

i don't shine my sinks though, never have even when i was following her program they just get wet and stained again, i have so much else to do it made me angry to spend time doing something i viewed as fruitless

BUT instead my hall is 'my sink' ie we have a large square hallway. two cupboards and every door for the house open off this hallway and if i'ts a mess then life is not pretty SO i keep THAT clean and that really does make a difference ;) (and it makes me feel like i've accomplished something!)
