Good to hear all the different ways people are trying to save electricity. My neighbour downstairs appears to have moved out so if you're wondering why i'm posting at this time; I've just put the washing machine on - night rate :)
  • Have just phoned up the leccy company, and they have confirmed that for the first 364 units I pay 16.12 pence and thereafter it is 12.56 pence. Therefore for this week I have used the lower rate and the cost is £23.86 for the week. Still quite high, but not as bad as I initially thought.

Can't wait until Friday when I can read my meter again and see how much, if any, we have managed to save.

    Hi SamanthaA,

thanks for that tip, I shall definitely investigate further.
My readings for the last week are : rate 1 - 43921 so 35 units used & rate 2 : 11461 so 4 units used.

Total usage for the week 39 units which is ok considering it was half term, but I'm still determined to cut it down further by increasing my night rate usage.

  • Couldn't resist having a peak at my meter this morning and guess what?...... I only have used 34 units since Friday evening (yippee!!). :j As it equated to about 27 unit per DAY last week, I am really chuffed that all our efforts seem to be working. Roll on this Friday when I can see how effective these efforts really have been!

  • Not doing so well this week... had the tumbler on a fair bit, plus teh heaters for a couple of days... but only at night..... Meter reading will be a couple of hours early tomorrow due to work, but I'm not holding out much hope!

  • Right, I remembered to check the meter. It's been 2 weeks exactly since I started (forgot last week). So, I started at 739 and now it's 969 which equates to 115 units per week, which is 16.3 units per day. Disgraceful:o

Now, how do I go about finding out how much that costs per day?

  • Hi guys and gals, well my reading for this week is 02036 meaning I have used 88 units this week - 31 less than last AND we were home all week!:T I must be doing something right! Hope everyone else is keeping up the good work!
  • A few hours early, but my readings are 603 Day rate and 406 Night rate....

64 Day rate used, and 62 night rate:eek: used this week. The tumble dryer has been on most of the week, but at least its been during the night.

I'll minimise its use this week (after tonight!) and unless the weather changes again, we should not have to put the heaters on, so hopefully it'll be a bit lower next week!

A bit of a disaster....reading has increased from previous week!
This weeks reading is 39981 so I have used 122 units. 13 more than last week!
Mostly I think due to eldest child returning at the weekend...tumble dryer was put to use more than I would have liked. But...on the postive side it has shown us how easy it is to use more electricity. So...onward to the next week and I will definately be making a bigger effort.
