Ok, so 7 days, and a few hours later, the meter has gone from 24824 to 24114.
Why is it going DOWN???0 -

I have no idea - how bizarre! Perhaps you misread it the first time? Definitely a bit odd, maybe worth checking every day?
I've updated the original list - amazing how some of us seem to use loads and other so little.
Tyllwyd, that's quite scary about how much is being wasted when nobody is home. I bet ours is much worse than that.0 -
I fear my reading may be a lot higher next week, since we have been off work this week the tv has been on a lot and so have the laptops!! I have been trying not to use the dryer though and switching things off at the plug, not got round to buying any energy saving bulbs yet either - Oh well, will just have to see!0

Right so my electric reading this morning at 7:05 was 12461 against last weeks of 12355 so 106 units. WOW!
I need to get our standby saver sorted again and turn the electric off on the laptops overnight. Will have a look at all the light bulbs see if there are any more we can swap for energy savings ones.0 -

I read a really shocking story in the Daily Mail the other day and I'm going to get rid of all our energy savers - I don't care how much power I'm wasting, there are too many stories about them being bad for you and my family's health is more important than a few pence. If you haven't heard the stories, see:

There was another one about a woman who nearly lost her eyesight, but I can't find it online. Maybe all scaremongering, but I'm not taking any chances!0 -

definately scaremongering and id treat it with a large dose of salt - it is the daily mail after all - im surpirsed it isnt the result of hoodies from Poland!!!0 -
I make a point of never believing anything the Mail say on principle - but having said that, I agree that the light from those energy saving bulbs is horrible. My OH has stocked up on old fashioned bulbs, so we are hoping the energy saving ones will have improved by the time our supplies run out!
We used 92 KWh of electricity last week (my target is 104). Not as good as it seems because we were away for a couple of days - but I've pretty much caught up on the washing, and we did stick electric fires on to help get the house warm when we got back, so it could be worse.0 -
I totally agree - I never buy the Mail (never since they decided to support fox-hunting!) but someone left a copy lying around at work and I saw the article. It's not just them though, if you google energy-saving lightbulb illnesses you'll get all sorts of other results. Scaremongering maybe, but I'll not be taking the chance - I'll put them in outdoor lights but not in the bedrooms!
Tyllwyd, that sounds like a good result on the meter readings - well done! We're doing terribly this week, rather than 50% less it'll probably be 50% more.0 -
I've been away for a few days so apologies for the late update. My reading on day 10 is 24243 so my daily average is 14.7
I'm aiming to get to below 8 per day."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
