I read mine last night. Was sitting there, like a saddo, waiting for exactly 6.55pm! It was 13006. If my sums are right that's 38 kwh.

I got my last bill out and worked it out at £5.14 for the week. (there's usually only me in the house).

Looking forward to seeing everyone elses results!

Not sure how I'm going to cut down on that very much. I have defrosted the very old freezer this morning and have 2 light bulbs to replace (don't use them lights much though)

Hi, I've been a member for a while but not actively making a dent on my debt. Now I've graduated from a full time degree course and will once again be earning a living I'm eager to start working on reducing my outgoings. I currently live in a 2 bed terrace, me and hubby and 2 kids, 4 & 6.

I pay a wopping £57 a month for electricity and £70 a month for gas. Knowing the winter months are going to be hard on energy consumption I have already been nagging at my family to cut back so this is a fab thread and reason to do this. Please can I join in with you all?

Took my meter readings tonight at 17.00 hrs: Gas Meter: 05596
    Electricity Meter: 18266.

Have just joined Imeasure and I'm also thinking about investing in an Energy owl but will see how the next week goes.

Looking forward in taking part in my first challenge and getting started with my moneysaving plans.

    Hi all

My meter readings at 5.45 today are

    Day: 25350.69 40.26 units used
    Night: 6501.82 8.02 units used

I will be pleased if I keep it the same this week as heating went on for 1st time today and the kids were away last week for half term so the tv is on more this week.

At least I have worked out that our night rate doesn't go off until 8am in Winter so I can get up early and put washing on, which will be good.

Have just taken my reading...35859, so that is 109 for the week.

Am busy now turning everything off, as soon as it is no longer needed. Have only had one child at home this week, but DS returns Friday for the weekend, so am hoping for good drying weather to cope with the mountain of washing he is sure to bring.

  • Couple of hours late, but my new readings are:
    Day rate 0539
    Night rate 0344

Will have to toddle off back to the first post to see how much I've used....

    (0469/0295)

Ok, so I've used 70 units of day rate and 49 units of night rate. That's a much better ratio than I was expecting..... have just had to put the little heater on in DS's room though as it was 15 deg when we got in....

Aren't mobile phone reminders a wonderful thing!! When the alarm went off tonight, I wondered what was going on...then realised...I had to read the meter:rotfl:

So, tonight's reading was 79732, last weeks was 79636 - which equals 96 units used. Have to say that I am amazed it was so low. Had to use my tumble drier and washing machine a lot more than usual over the weekend (kids:rolleyes: ) so thought the figures would be quite high.

Don't realistically think I'll be able to halve the amount, and it is currently half term, but will try to get it down to around 80 units...and see how I get on!!

Now....must go & set that reminder.......;)

But I got round to defrosting the fridge, as the ice compartment was dripping ice water all over the inside - eugh!

Moved the daily use bread from the freezer across to the ice compartment. hoping this would be 2 fold in reducing the opening times of the freezer & preventing the ice compartment freezing again.

Only had Monday off work with DS, so he`s at the childminder for most of the rest of week - using her leccy! Theres only Thursday, when he visits his Nan. She normally brings him home about lunchtime, so he can have his own toys and things.

    Meter readings due on Sat.......

I did a bit of an experiment which took me back a bit - we went away for two days, so we just left on the fridge, radio alarms, wireless network box and freeview box, couple of cordless phones and whatever the gas boiler needed. When we came back, we'd used 8 units of electricity in just over two days - which gives 4 x 365 x £0.12 = £175 for the year just to keep things ticking over. I had no idea it might be that much!

    Morning everyone,

I finally managed to get through to the energy company & found out the off peak times - midninght til 7 this time of year so not as generous as I hoped but have decided to try setting the alarm early just to put the washing machine on during peak times.

I'm going to try every energy saving thing I can think of to see if it makes a difference. Less water going in the kettle - dad always nagging me about that one  & think I'll try switching cordless phone off at night too. I'm also going to try resetting the times the water gets heated too. My biggest waste is having multiple things plugged into sockets which all come on when only using one thing eg. the wii & dvd player come on when tv & cable box are switched on so I'm off to unplug them right now ...

will post any more tips if I think of them

  • Hi sorry only just got round to posting, my reading on Monday night was 01948 so that makes 119 units for the week, will have to dig out my bill and try and work out what that equates to in £ and pence although I suspect it will not be easy as have some weird discount rate thing with Edf!!
