This bird has to be in work for 7 this morn, and boy is it cold & frosty!

    Meter readings are
Electric rate1 39126 (+31)/ rate2 13884 (+8) AND had the letter increasing my payment from £28 to £34 per month.
Gas 6629 (+7), which I am surprised at considering the cold spell we just had!

Not a completly `true` reading as not at work on Monday and so had washer on a couple of times, plus Xbox and pc; out Tuesday evening and Mum didn`t bring DS home on Thursday as expected and I have watched Most Haunted Live till 12pm most nights!
Will do this again next week, but it wont be a 6.60am post!

Think the aim may be to even out the leccy, rather than reduce.

  • Took my meter reading at 10.03 last night and even though I wasn't drunk enough to read it, I was most definitely too drunk to post on here my results!!!:o

Anyway, had a great halloween party with the kids who had masses from their trick or treating efforts, so a good time was had by all (suffering today, mind you:D ).

Sorry to digress - now to the serious business of electricity meter readings. Last week my reading was 57171 and this week was........ 57311. So that's a total of 190 units used in one week alone:eek: . Can't find an up to date statement, so don't know how much I pay per unit, but will phone them on Monday and find out - I know it's not gonna be cheap though. Will keep you posted and hoping to drastically reduce by bill in the next week.

hi panda et al? Is it too late to join in? I don't think I have a high useage of electricity, but I'm sure I could trim it a bit, it all helps.

My start reading - Saturday 2.10pm is 28111.

I don't think I have anything like a daytime or night time rate.

Oddly this may be a slightly higher week than normal as my parents are coming tomorrow to stay for a couple of days but it won't be huge amounts more than normal.

Was about to put the dishwasher on and before I knew it I was filling a sink of hot water and unloading all the dirty dishes into the sink. Haven't washed a load of dishes since we had the thing over 6 years ago!!! All I can see is that 190 units we used last week and making sure that I bring it down by HALF in the next week!

  • Hi everyone

I've found this thread at last (note to self: SUBSCRIBE!!)

Anyway, I posted at the start which was 12 days ago I think. My meter reading is at 941 (which frightened the bejeezus out of me) but if OP doesn't mind I'll post again in 2 days time and I can half it (for a week)?

Right, now where is that "subscribe" button? :o

i know it's late but can I join you?. I took my meter readings and recorded them in my diary so I'll post my figures next week. I'm new to this house so I really don't know what the bills will be and this challenge will help a lot to make us more concious of what we use (at the moment we're terrible).
  • Seeing as I have had such a shock on how much electricity I used in the first week (190 units which I think equates to around £30 -£35 per week:eek: ) and we only pay £59 per MONTH this means that I HAVE TO reduce my electricity usage by 50% just to stand still:eek: ; I have done the following:

    - Emptied one of my freezers and made sure my other two were choc-a-bloc
    - Gave a sharp warning to the kids to ensure ALL lights are turned off as well as tvs, playstations, stereos etc etc etc (nag! nag! nag!)
    - Only washed dishes by hand and haven't put on dishwasher all weekend
    - Managed to get washing dry WITHOUT using the tumble drier - but oh how I have hanging clothes over the radiators
    - Went down friends last night to watch X Factor, therefore saving on lights AND heating (hee! hee!) And she has a log fire so it was really nice and cosy.

If anyone else can think of anything I can try to reduce my leccy bill I would be most grateful.;)

In my lounge I have, for at least 5 years, had a standard lamp with an energy saving bulb in it. Its the main source of light, as I dislike the ceiling lights, so its on almost constantly.
Anyway the bulbs just gone & guess what? Its NOT a energy saving bulb as I thought!!!!

Am now pacing the house to check that the bulbs I thought were energy savers are!

The other thing I`ve done is to get my teapot out! I work 7 days, but ALWAYS have at least 2 hot drinks before I leave for work, I dont own a flask, so I put the boiled water in the pot with a cosy on & it will keep for 30min ish.
I`ve just done it with the herbal tea I use before bed.....
