I have just been refused by Lovefilm because I have had a Screenselect account. However, I thought Lovefilm were owned by ONLINE RENTALS and Screenselect by VIDEOISLAND according to Martin's article:

    "Extra Note: Who owns who?

    · VIDEO ISLAND: Screen Select; MSN Rental; Tesco Rental; EasyCinema; ITV Movie Club.

    · ONLINE RENTALS: Lovefilm; Sainsbury’s Rentals; CD Wow Rentals; Lastminute.com Rentals; FilmFour DVD; Five Movie Club; WHSmith Movies Direct; Club Extra DVD; Guardian Unlimited Sofa Cinema."

    However, Lovefilm tells me:

Our authorisation process has detected that in the past you have had a free trial with LOVEFiLM or a member of the LOVEFiLM group of companies (including ScreenSelect), or any website powered by LOVEFiLM or Video Island and therefore do not qualify for the free trial offer associated with this account.

    Have they merged?

    Have they merged?

Yes they merged about 1 month ago.
LONDON, 6 April 2006: LOVEFiLM International Ltd and Video Island Inc, the owner of ScreenSelect.co.uk, today announce their intention to merge and create Europe's leading web-based home entertainment subscription service.

The deal, a 50-50 merger, will give the combined group more than 400,000 subscribers and a strong position in the UK market with around 17% of all DVD rental transactions; as well as strong market share in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Both companies will be consolidating under the LOVEFiLM consumer brand.

I generate a new credit card number ,use a different email address and modify my address slightly each time I open a new account.
    It works.
hi, exactly what do you mean by modifying your address?

I think fano is referring to this post by tadger

Somehting I've just though of that might stop the companies from billing you once the trail has expired ...

Would a cahoot webcard (virtual card number and expiry date for a single use) work ?? Do the companies actually try and pre-authoirze an amount against the card ?? Cos if not you could create a cahoot webcard with £1 value and sign up with that.... if the company keeps trying to take money even if you cancelled within the T&C's then the most they would get would be £1 ????

Does that help? And for modifying your address- maybe writing street name in lowercase or putting extra spaces in? Don't know how as I think the postcode would identify it.

What is it that stops you going back to the same company and doing a free trial again?

Can you sign up with a different email address to get another free trial?
Can you sign up with a different postal address to get another free trial?

Blockbuster openly says in there T+C's that you can sign up again after a month.

are you sure blockbuster say you can sign up again after 1 month?
    thanks
