DVD Wars: Slash The Cost Of Rental/MSE Discussion

When cancelling a free trial try and give 3-4 days before the end of the trial and change the amount of DVD's you are getting to 1 and then delete all the films in your list and send an email after you have cancelled to ask if it has gone through.
Another thing you can do is cancel the DD with your bank.
I was charged for the following month once but just took advantage of it then cancelled.0

I've not seen the option to pay this way before- I thought they all wanted payment by 'credit card' (or the long number on your debit card maybe?). I understand that's alot harder to control your payments/ cancel when you are paying in that way.0

I'm a newbie here - so hope I'm not doing anything wrong!
I've been working my way (tarting?) through a huge list of free trials (on Uk-DVD-rental-guide.com - am i allowed to say that? - its not my site or anything) and now have kind of run out.
I really liked MyMovieStream best I think as a service - they were fast and none of the dvds were scratched or anything and the one which didn't turn up they sorted out without charging me for it or anything.
Anyway, I heard that a lot of these companies give a really good service during the free trial to lure you in and then aren't so good when you sign-up properly.
Does anyone know which companies are bad like that or any other problems that arise after signing-up properly? (i.e. is mymoviestream a good bet - has anyone tried them long-term?)
Was going to go back to Screenselect because they do PS2 games rentals now too, but they are merging with lovefilm so am not sure if the service might change...
 Thanks!0

I just got kicked of Tesco dvd rental.
There service was superb but 7 dvd's have not arrived in the last 6 weeks. I reported them lost. Eventually they decided to close my account due to the obscene amount of discs that haven't turned up BUT AFTER THEY TOOK MY MONTHLY PAYMENT.
I fired an email away and they basically said that because they suspended the account after my payment i hadn't a leg to stand on.
I've made a complaint with the Royal Mail about the number of deliveries that have not turned up...i'll see what they do about it.0

Just a word of warning to my fellow dvd tarts. Took up postadvd on their 2week free trial on the 3rd April, received only 2dvds from my list (picked the 3 at a time offer) in the 2weeks (1 of which was unplayable). I cancelled my subscription on the 15th April, received a confirmation e-mail, then discovered on the 17th April that they had charged my card anyway. I had no dvds outstanding (as they never sent any more out after the first 2 were returned). So the message from me is DON'T BOTHER WITH POSTADVD
An update on the situation with postadvd, after ignoring my first email requesting a refund they have responded to my second (threatening legal action) with a full refund however no communication or apology.0

Been looking for a 2-month code for a while but no joy. That one doesn't seem to work anymore. Does anyone have a longer term freebie code please?

I did some searching first and could not find this offer anywhere else, but please move if I missed a more appropriate thread.
CD WOW are offering a 30 day trial for DVD Rental. 2 discs at a time unlimited. At £12.99 it is not the best value available, but another one to add to the free trial list - plus they are giving an £8.75 CD voucher for anyone who signs up.

The turnaround is also not as good as most UK based claims.0

I have been using online rental companies for the past two years now. Blockbuster, ScreenSelect, LoveFilm and Tesco.
Whilst the initial free month is great, I tended to stick with a company for a couple of months until they start sending older films - they all tend to do this after your initial friendly start, so I then cancel my membership.
Having started with Blockbuster, they came back after one year and offered me 2 months for the price of 1 - which I accepted.
After two months, I received a 2 for 1 offer from ScreenSelect - so I switched again.
I have now switched back to Tesco, having left them only 4 months ago on a 3 month for the price of 1 (£14.97).
Hopefully Lovefilm will come back after three months and offer me a deal !0
