Guys, have had a closer look at the now non-functioning ipod, whilst not damaged on the outer screen you can see a "line" running diagonally within the screen.

Our son says he never dropped it or hit it against anything and also had it in his pocket, all day, not sure if it was trouser or jacket, neverthelsss the item is a "portable" piece of equipment and it should be safe to carry during your normal working day.

I don't suppose he could have sat down with it in his trouser pocket and flexed it a bit to crack the inner screen, could he?
That's exactly what I did with a pda.

I'm in exactly the same position with regards to the battery on a video ipod. I sent it in, they send it back stating their adveryised 14 hours is only advisable, upto 8 is acceptable. I wrote a letter, they havent contacted me in the 10 working days I gave them. This has been going on since October.

Saga, continues, I double checked with my son, its not been sat on, or put into a school bag or under a pile of books etc, ie, treated carefully and almost in a new born baby fashion!

I received the ipod back today from the Apple in Co Cork, Republic of Ireland.

To demonstrate how much care they take of an ipod, it was in its standard polystryene box, nothing else, then placed inside a plain plastic delivery envelope. When I opened it the side of the box was badly crushed, but luckily no evidence of damage to the ipod.

No note, or communication of any kind enclosed, most dissappointing, but unsurprising, given their now tarnished customer care reputation.

I will be checking with the consumer body here in N Ireland and or Trading Standards to see were I stand.

Thanks again to all the posters out there, your input and support is invaluable!
