Apple ipod 4mths old, screen failed options?

My sons present for passing his GCSEs was an ipod, he's treated it like a baby, yesterday the screen failed, ie doesn't show an appropriate image etc
Contacted Apple today, to be told, that screen failures are not covered under warranty!! This is breath-taking and I am not a happy consumer.
Let me know the options open to me, I realise that Apple have a poor customer relation reputation but they shouldn't treat consumers in this off hand fashion, all help, suggestions appreciated.

This may be of no use..when this happened to my son's ipod I went onto applestore.com, went into the support section and had to reset the ipod following the instructions on screen. I am hopeless with anything technical but I got it to work0

Hi mbecks, its a standard ipod, 20 mb, having searching for info, even on flawedmusicplayer.com (which now can't be found!!!) Yet to find direct reference to this problem - but lots on the smaller nano screen failure, so am still looking for help. Will do as you suggest and keep going, thanks!0

I'm amazed that they have said that to you as it's clearly an unlawful statement.
http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htmIf a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)EGG are a bunch of complete bankers!0 -
Have you told them that the screen is broken and not just scratched? A lot of people wanted replacement iPods because of a scratched screen but were told they were not covered. A broken screen on the otherhand, if not obviously caused by the owner should be replaced.0

Guys, there isn't any evidence of damage or breakage or abuse, screen only visible for a quarter of its area, they point blank said they do not offer repair on the LCD screen, no ifs or buts etc.
Options, to make a claim via credit card or small claims court ie item sold not fit for the purpose for which it was sold? Hoping to get a reply from someone who the same problem ( which has shown up on the nan ipod by the way - apple then reluctantly replaced those!!!) and were successful in making a claim for either repair or replacement.

Contact your local Trading Standards. They will be able to advise you exactly what your rights are in this case (it does look like you are covered completely under The Sale of Goods Act). They may also be able to apply additional pressure on your behalf. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thanx Rex, had hoped to make contact with another disgruntled ipod buyer, with similar problem, who had faced Apple down!!
Thanx so far board! Will check out these options.0 -
They have to repair or replace it, if it fails within the first 12 months
Write to them or contact the place where you bought it from! (or persistently phone them and speak to someone with some authority)

So long as you have the receipt etc, you will be fine! Out of interest how did you pay for it? If by credit card, you could claim via the credit card company iirc.Student Moneysaving Expert :beer:0 -
Try ringing Apple again, sometimes (well more often than not in my experience!) you just get someone on the phone who doesn't know what they are doing or isn't bothered. Call centres - can't live with them, can't live without them.
Just tell them it is faulty before talking about the screen. You are not seeing a display properly or something like that.
Let us know how you get on.0
