If you know of any groups that practise this please email info@freecycle.org as it is actually against the rules for any group to require a member to post an offer before a wanted, and it could also jeopardise freecycles charitable status

my Freecycle insists on you posting offered items before asking for want items. The moderator even referred me to the rules and declined me saying I hadn't offered when I had. She said she did a search and couldn't find my post, which was rubbish as I did a search and emailed it back to her.

But I have found I have problems with my mod.

Well this has all been very interesting reading!

I agree that there's nothing wrong with stipulating people want collection within 24 hours. If those are your circumstances, still better to offer it up than tipping it.
On that aside ref. getting rid of big stuff, please check out your local Age Concern, quite a few will collect for free, and you know it's going to a good cause.

Any mods that let through requests asking for perfect goods shouldn't be running a group! People asking for cars and stuff though - yeah it's cheeky, but don't ask don't get! ;)

I'm glad I've read all this too because though I do need a few things and have been sending emails, I don't like the idea of having to lay out all my personal issues to a complete stranger. However I do understand that people appreciate this info. when they're choosing between emails. I've been trying to write something brief without going down the sob story route. As yet I've been unsuccessful with getting picked to receive, but I've only had a few goes, so I'm not taking it personally!
On the plus side, I joined, offered up an old ornament, which was collected 5 hours later! Fantastic! So at the moment it's all still good in my book :D

i actually didn't realised i had to put any info in an email, i just ask if the item is still available, probably why i never get offered anyhing!

Usually if the email you send it a polite and cheery one it will more likely to be chosen above the 'I'll take it off your hands' type message.

I use Freecycle a lot for both getting rid of stuff and asking for things such as breeze blocks and topsoil(!). We have been lucky and most of the people are genuine. You get a feel for people who are taking the mickey especially like somebody who recently posted they watned a plasma TV...... There were perfectly AOK colour tv's on offer however they obviously thought they would aim a little higher! You can ignore them though!

been a member of freecycle for a few months now and apart from the odd person not turning up to collect which is really annoying, it's been a good experience and we've got rid of loads of stuff that was of no further use to us that would otherwise have ended up down the dump.
:Sometime I try to be NORMAL. . . But it gets boring so I go back to being me. . .

Why should it bother you? They aren't stealing anything. I couldn't care less if someone takes something I offer on freecycle and then chooses to sell it - I just love not putting things into landfill. If I can't be bothered to sell something and someone else can - then good luck to them.
