Not sure how you can be struggling to use it you either reply to offered emails or post your own wanted or offered items.
One tip i would give though is be polite and don't just write 'I want this!'

You could also put a wanted ad in your local papers. Quite often people need to shift stuff out of a house quickly if a relitive has passed away or needed to go into a home.

A client of mine has a sister who went into a home recently. The house is on the market and they had to clear it out. She was going round everyone she knows with a list of what hasn't been taken by family. The older generation hate to see things go to waste - I like that in them.

Placing wanted ads in the local paper, explaining that money is tight/non existant but you could provide a service in clearing a house (then give away anything surplus to requirements on Freecycle). Indeed why not offer to clear a whole house on Freecycle and just keep what you want?

  • We have a Sue Ryder charity shop in our town. It deals almost exclusively in used furniture. It seems very reasonably priced and they do delivery for £5. hth

Well this has all been very interesting reading!

I agree that there's nothing wrong with stipulating people want collection within 24 hours. If those are your circumstances, still better to offer it up than tipping it.
On that aside ref. getting rid of big stuff, please check out your local Age Concern, quite a few will collect for free, and you know it's going to a good cause.

Any mods that let through requests asking for perfect goods shouldn't be running a group! People asking for cars and stuff though - yeah it's cheeky, but don't ask don't get! ;)

I'm glad I've read all this too because though I do need a few things and have been sending emails, I don't like the idea of having to lay out all my personal issues to a complete stranger. However I do understand that people appreciate this info. when they're choosing between emails. I've been trying to write something brief without going down the sob story route. As yet I've been unsuccessful with getting picked to receive, but I've only had a few goes, so I'm not taking it personally!
On the plus side, I joined, offered up an old ornament, which was collected 5 hours later! Fantastic! So at the moment it's all still good in my book :D
    :)
