Just wanted to say, many thanks for bringing Freecycle to my attention. I joined a few days ago & have been able to get rid of 3 items so far!
Only problem is I am getting addicted & have to hold myself back from replying to the offered items. Im supposed to be having a clear out!

I got this one on my local group and I have to say I appreciate the person's honesty.

Trying to make some money for my sons school trip in May and would really appreciate it if anyone had some quality items they need to get rid of that I could sell at the weekend. I know its a bit cheeky asking for free things to sell but dont want to disappoint my boy.

Apologies if I offend anyone. Can collect.

I know we've got to come up with £500 for one of our children to go on a school trip in May, not a problem for us, but could be for some, so it shows initiative. The member is willing to go out of her way to help those who need to clear stuff and get up early in the mornings to set out her stall.

If you know of any groups that practise this please email info@freecycle.org as it is actually against the rules for any group to require a member to post an offer before a wanted, and it could also jeopardise freecycles charitable status

 really?? Our group makes you do an offer first.

I'm really p***ed off at ours! I emailed a mod and asked a question 2 days ago and haven't had a reply  and also, i just looked and all there is are wanted posts for rediculous things like a portable dvd player for someone to have for their son in their car  make do with pens and paper like the rest of us!!

yes really, they are not allowed to. make sure if you email mention that you know this could affect the charitable status as this will grab their attention and make them listen

Eldest daughter has decided that she wants guiniepigs.

So, I placed a wanted ad on my local group asking for a hutch and possibly a run.

I received 2 responses. However both respondents wanted me to give their guiniepigs a home into the bargain. Fair enough I thought.

After chatting to my daughter we chose one on the basis that she was closer and contacted her again. She had e mailed me her phone number so I called her.

She told me all about her guiniepig and how it was the last one of a few they had kept, and that her daughter had lost interest and whilst they would keep it until it expired, they would also be happy to see it go to someone who would look after it. But she was concerned that my daughter would be OK if it didn't last that long. I assured her that we had kept loads of small animals and were quite used to dealing with death and his regular rounds. My youngest lost a hampster and a chicken on the same day once.

We explained that we were thinking of getting a couple of younger ones and asked if the older one would be OK with them. Yes came the reply.

So we made arrangements to go and pick up said guiniepig and accessories. Then I set about on another job that would take me up until the time we had to leave.

I heard my mobile ring, and my wife answered it. Apparently the lady went to check on the guinipig as she did every day, only to find it had died! Apparently the woman was trying her best not to laugh.:rotfl:

"Well" my wife said, "I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad it happened before we took it on."

However, we were quite welcome to the hutch, run etc, so we took up her offer.

As she said when I was leaving "You couldn't make it up!"
