lookoutapiano : A lot of Freecycles want members to post an Offered first (as has been said) Ours does not.
Just make sure when you post a message it starts with the words WANTED or OFFER etc. and then the item itself. Some strict 'cycles will not even post a message if it doesn't start with that ....they'll just Delete it!!

If you know of any groups that practise this please email info@freecycle.org as it is actually against the rules for any group to require a member to post an offer before a wanted, and it could also jeopardise freecycles charitable status

Maybe there is simply some misinterpretation going on amongst forum managers. Our local group says that to join freecycle, you need to offer first, which is a bit flimsy anyway, because it would be easy to make something up!

The important thing is for groups to keep the spirit of recycling up. It is a free market after all. ()

The receiver maybe someone who needs a bed out of desperation, or needs £20 extra bootsale money to pay bills, again out of desperation, while a donor may be someone who needs to clear a property asap, (like tonight), or be someone who is patient and wants to see their old possessions being put to good use by someone they see as being in genuinely need.
Freecycle is mainly about - recycling, but also about the freedom of choice and individuality. There are bound to disappointments, but why be disapointed?
It's a great concept, and we can just be ourselves.

I read that too!

well being a member of all the managerial groups and being a buddy (asuming you know what that is and being friends with one or two goa's (and ex goa and imod) you very soon learn to stick to the rules to set the example.
unfortunatly and i will say it out loud there are a number of groups that are run by no good for nothing wallys who never read mod manuals, mod squads or get any training and then try to run the groups however they wish, even if they get told they need to change things they just ignore all the advise and carry on regardless.
and this all gives freecycle a bad name as it only takes a few groups members to say oh our groups bad and mud sticks. on the whole most groups are run correctly various minor tweeks to rules and day to day running and those groups are succesfully acheiving freecycles main aim "saving usable items from landfill" hence at the end of last year freecycle won best community recycling initiative of the year 2008
any how i won't rant on anymore but i will say this If you are not already a member please join and support your local group after all freecycle is nothing without it's members
