Ds (5) has asked for an archery set (the cheap plastic type you get in pound shops) and an xbox 360 - I've told him he can't have the xbox as we already have a ps2, ds, wii and a laptop so don't see the need for another games console. Instead I have bought him dvds, ben 10 toy, couple of board games (half price), skates (boots sale reduced to £3.75) and a spiderman set that was reduced to £16 from £40. Going to get him a skidder/go kart type thing and a remote control car. I have made a list of things I would like to get him - things I know he will enjoy and play with - and I have asked my parents and grandparents to buy him something of the list rather than risk him getting duplicates or toys he isn't really into. Family were fine with this as they were struggling for ideas.
Dd (3) asks for every toy that is advertised on nick jr! So far I've got her peppa pig dvds, baby born, easel set and a disney princess doll (half price). Think I am going to get her the dream town rose cottage and a few accessories as they are on 3 for 2 in Woolworths.
I am keeping a list of everything I have bought them and how much I have spend - so far they have had about 50 pound spent on them - hoping to spend no more than 100-150 each.
  • DD has got some happyland stuff with 20% voucher from ELC the other week, that was about £40 and apart from a few token things that will probably be it, she is 2 has no idea about presents and gets little things through the year as she needs them or in a weak moment!!! - would rather spread it out for financial reasons anyway!
Have asked family not to get toys as she does have loads (across our house and her 2 grandparents) and all her toys are suitable now for a couple years... at the rate she grows- clothes and vouchers for clarkes are definately what she (we!) needs!!

Nintendo Wii in our household !!

Got one earlier in the month, got 2 games from Morrissons when they were on offer at £15, and have been getting accessories in Tescos using coupons !!

So all in all, spent about £200. It`s a family present, so don`t feel so bad !

  • I'm amazed when people spend hundred's on small children for Christmas. They don't appreciate it and will only play with half the toys once, before opening another present.
I will be doing the same as my parents did for me and my siblings. One main present (around £60-70) and a stocking. The stocking was always the best part of Christmas as it was placed on the end of our beds in the night, we were so excited when we woke up.
I think its mad that so many people, especially those in debt would want to spend so much money. Also, its very sad that some children now expect it!
  • Usually I am a great big meany and my children get about £50 each. However this year DD1 has DR who stuff, Animal hospital stuff, Walle stickers and stocking fillers totalling about £60 and DD2 has a dolls house (£55 toys r us, half price plus delivery really nice) a peppa pig playhouse and stocking fillers totalling a whopping £85 -£90.
    Loving the dtd thread. x

Guys just to mention that Woolworths have their 3 for 2 toys on again, think it is on til november 2nd :) Makes some of those more expensive toys that the children want a little more reachable.

    Remember I want never gets!

Be wary of clicking the above links guys ... its some kind of filtering site where it provides links to places like amazon and mothercare just to earn money. Not worth the safety where debit and credit card details are involved.

I've just had a brilliant result at the Early Learning Centre, £165 of toys for £101 :T

Sizzling kitchen - £65 - comes with free accessory set worth £30
    Leapfrog Leapster 2 - £40 - should be £50
    Leapster 2 Star Wars game - £16 - should be £20

Then used a 20% off code posted on the discount codes board :T

I then bought another Leapster 2 game on Amazon using money that I'd made doing online surveys so will get this one for £0 :j

Not bad ehh??? Please don't anyone burst my bubble and tell me that I could have done better with different offers, I'll be very sad :p

Daniel is 3.5 and at the moment he see's adverts on the tv and says "I want that" without even knowing what it is. We are getting him a electronic keyboard £30 argos and some small bits. He has a habit of riding my feather duster round the house so I've bought one of those horse on a stick things for £5 in Wilkinsons and some puzzles, a Bob the Builder friction toy in Tesco sale and a Thomas the Tank Engine DVD from LoveFilm Retail using Quidco. Hoping to spend about £75 in total on him. I have three nephews and neices and they are getting £30 spent on them each.
