I asked my 5yo what he wanted for Xmas and he couldn't think of anything! He doesn't really get the idea of brands or 'must-have' toys yet - I'm sure that will all change bfore long though! I can't imagine him asking for a Wii or anything like that- a 4 yo freind of his has one, but when my DS comes back from playing at this boy's house he complains that 'Cxxx just has computer games - he doesn't have any proper toys!' Anyone got any ideas what I should get him for xmas?!!!

I tried giving him a toy catalogue to choose something from, but he just picked some Hot Wheels toy almost at random - he didn't really want it, it was on the first page he opened the catalogue on. I tried to get him to look through it properly, so he flicked a couple of pages then chose some really rubbish car race track for toddlers! I explained it was for younger kids, and anyway he already has a scalextric-type race track thing which is much better. He enjoyed looking at the toys but he had no idea what he wanted, he wasn't that bothered about any of them. I suppose I should be grateful that he is not demanding big expensive toys!! :rotfl:

How about some lego, they sell some sets in blue storage boxes that either make houses or vechicles etc, or how about some knex, my twins are six and had these last christmas and they really like them still.
If you want the rainbow you have to go through the rain.

    I have 2 little boys, 3 and 18 months.
My eldest is getting a fireman sam play set and (hopefully) the Little Einsteins Rocket.

Youngest is getting, we think, a ELC Happyland Train and ELC lift off rocket.

They will both get a santa sack too, with a selection of stocking fillers, that cost no more than £3 each (each individual filler) so there are things like chocolate santa, (for my oldest!) little car packs, soap, toothbrush, pyjamas that were on offer, books, lego, puzzles, drawing activity packs, stickers etc....
The sacks are almost done. I could say done, as they have a nappy box each full (huggies box type thing) but I keep seeing stuff....oops.

    Can't wait!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
My boys want the Mission Lego sets and DS games. I went to Argos the other day and the Mission 6 set was £70, and the last one, box all bashed and taped, said they'd give me £5 off. No thanks. So I checked in local Toymaster and they had a deal on most of the big Lego sets and I got the Mission set for £55, delighted with that. The lady at the store said that Lego flies of the shelves, she couldn't stock the shelves fast enough. I see that the Catchabeast by Bandai is supposed to be popular too this year, at £20. I've got Cluedo for them, Scrabble and Monopoly for them too. Got DS games at Tesco, just make sure they remove all the security tags, not just the plastic box but the red tag on the game box also, they haven't done so on the ones I've bought and I'll need to go back. First time I've seen the double tags, little red clips on the boxes. Eldest mentioned Hotwires science set also but I'll have to see about that.

We don't officially do christmas lists until the weekend after Bonfire night, but so far nothing is really coming to light for any of the boys (7.5,5 and 2.5) - the older will ask for anything and everything he sees (we avoid Toys R Us like the plague, lol), middle one has a transport/Eddie Stobart fixation, so he's easy to please, and youngest - well, he's still young thankfully.

    They've got -

For eldest, a large Pirates Of The Carribbean megabloks set, which goes with some that he already has and was silly money in Argos a while back, and a micro helicopter, as he had one last year that broke, and he still pines for it, so this is a really good one (at a really good price).

For middle - well, he has the aforementioned transport in the form of a 2foot long remote control and fully functioning bin lorry (we have a very popular forklift in a similar scale, so again I know it's a safe bet), and a giant marble run.

Youngest has a Lunar Jim voice changing helmet (have you ever heard a toddler's giggle through the Optimus Prime one - it's hilarious, but too heavy for him, so now he'll have one more his size), and a big Thomas wooden railway set.

I don't think I paid even half price for any of it, nearer quarter price for most, so even if they all come up with something really big on their lists (which in their remit is around the £50 mark), it won't overload the finances.

  • My grandaughter who will be almost 2.5 by Christmas will be getting an Early Learning centre Sing a long 'Pink' CD player with two microphones attached from granny and grandad, £37.50 now but I got it for £25.00 when it was on offer online a few weeks ago. Looks nice and sturdy. Will also get her a couple of sing a long and story CD's to go with it.
  • my girls are wanting a ds, they last for one last year but i thought they were too young (5 and 4) so I have got them one this year, they also want a barbie ipod, and a password journal, and maybe a doll, and the rest will be just small things, as I have explained the ds is a lot of money and they wont get as much as last year :) but they are fine, as they want the ds !

Happily my two girls (will be 2 years and 6 months at Xmas) are not yet into wanting specific things, so I'll make the most of it as I'm sure that will change!

DD1 is having a trike for her birthday next month (Boots 75% off sale) and they'll both just have a few small toys bought in the sales for Christmas. We only have a small flat so not much space for a gazillion toys, plus they have no clue yet who gives them what so with all the gifts from friends and relatives, they will have loads already. We'll save the money for future years when they want the latest electronic gadgets etc!! :D

I've got 3 children DS1 is 5.5, DS2 is coming up 4 and DD is 8 months. Have convinced both boys to ask for 'a surprise' lol (althoguh DS2 has also asked for a toothbrush and school socks like his brother has!!!) and obv DD has no idea what Christmas even is!

DS1&2 are both getting a Nintendo DS from Father Christmas, plus a stocking (total for each stocking is £30) with cars/toothbrush/books/DVD/choc coins. We've then got them a Dr Who sweatshirt, Dr Who PJs, Dr Who DVD, couple of books and a puzzle and a board game each. They're getting from siblings some other Dr Who bits and pieces.

DD is getting a rag doll (£15) from father Christmas plus a stocking (£25). we've got her the Mamas and Papas rocking 'molly moo'. Bought it in January (before she was even born lol) for £25 in the Argos sale. have also got her a silver bracelet (£25, again from mamas and papas). Her brothers have got her a basket of 'In the night garden' bits and pieces.

In total for the 3 of them we've spent about £500 this year.
    Slightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....
