I get several every day, but they get spotted immediately as I vet my emails with Mailwasher before downloading the ones I want.

I haven't done it yet, but I'm awfully tempted to set up a hotmail account to bounce some of them back to the originators with a load of bogus bank account and 'personal' information. I just like the thought of the look of glee on their faces, when they think they've hooked a mug punter, turning to fury when they realise they've been duped. :rotfl:

you have to remember that they send out millions every day. its not personal to you.
they have no idea if you have an account or not and they are not interested.
what they are interested in is the few numptys who reply.
imagine, you only need a few hundred to reply, (a very small %) and you can make serious money out of them.

ps
ive just cleared out my spam box today, on my 3rd yahoo account.
it had 81 bank emails in it. most from "banks" i dont have an account with.
Get some gorm.
• I get quite a lot of these. I forward them on to reports@banksafeonline.org.uk
They investigate and shut down the fraudsters
• I can't believe that there is still some people about who think these phishing emails are genuine. I hear about people getting these emails pretending to be from a bank they don't bank with and they instantly know that its just a phishing scam email. But as soon as they get one pretending to be from their own bank they think its genuine!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Just to add to the phishing, I got one purporting to be from the inland revenue saying I was due a tax refund (if only!). It looked very official, right logos etc I could well imagine some people believing it (my mother is certainly gullible enough). Thankfully I knew better and forwarded it to the inland revenues counter fraud people.
There are so many people using the internet with little knowledge of safety issues it doesn't surprise me at all that there so many people getting 'done'. Another thing that surprises me is how many unsecure wireless networks there are out there. From my laptop I can access 8 in my vicinity!

I agree. Far too many people are buying into wireless technology without understanding, or having it explained to them, just what a security risk this can represent.

This has to be one of the most optimistic posts I've ever seen. :D

I very much doubt any practical use comes from banksafeonline, in the same way reporting any spam has very little effect. False returns, spoofed IPs, use of botnets etc etc, I don't think they'd have the resources to do anything unless they're particularly successful but then by definition they're the ones least reported.

Ive done that myself in the past, but still probably not very wise as youve just made it VERY clear that your email account is indeed 'active' (Meaning your spam rate will probably increase)
