Ive done that myself in the past, but still probably not very wise as youve just made it VERY clear that your email account is indeed 'active' (Meaning your spam rate will probably increase)

Nah, I have a handful of email accounts for different purposes. I received/sent it from one of my disposable accounts, which comes in handy when you don't want to give your main email out to people/companies;)0 -

Only if you have a fixed IP. There are some ISP's who allocate a new IP address every time you log on. Mine does, does yours?

How would anyone knowing your IP address make any difference though? It's independant to your email address and it's not as if they could spam an IP address. Maybe maliciously attack it but then most people can just reboot their router etc."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

There is (or used to be) some Israeli website where phishing emails could be forwarded.
Using a network of "friendly" PCs, they would then run scripts that would generate millions of realistic but random login names and passwords which would be automatically entered into the fake website the spammers had created.
The phishers would then have an enormous list of fake login names and equally fake passwords - if anyone fell for the phishing email then their real details would be somewhere in this list of millions of fake emails.
They did all sorts of clever stuff like IP spoofing, to prevent the phishers filtering out known "anti-spamming" sources. There was even talk of doing DDOS attacks on the fake websites to prevent unwary using them before they could be legitimately closed.
I have not heard anything of it lately. Shame really.0 -
In addition to these fake bank e-mails I keep getting (in my spam folder) loads of e-mails asking me to open up an attachment to view my latest statement details. Theses are obviously fake although not from banks. I would love to know though what would happen if I opened the attachment, any ideas?0

I know I'm OK with Lloyds. I have an online banking account with them but intentionally never told them my email address even though their website invites it from tome to time. I never respond to any other "phishing" mails either. Outlook 2003 is good a directing these to the Junk folder anyway and blocking all the links.0

You'd infect your computer with a virus."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
