    Ive decided NOT to filter 'dear valued customer' as it removes my maplins emails

    aliEnRIK,

    Why should it?

    All you need to do is exclude Maplin (and any others you want) from the filter.

    Just use your own mail client's syntax to set and save the equivalent of the following Mac Mail "Rule"

    If | all | of the following conditions are met:

    > | Message Content || Begins with || Dear Valued Customer |
    > | From || Does not contain || maplins.co.uk |
    > | From || Does not contain || whathifi.co.uk |

    Perform the following actions:

    > | Move message | to mailbox | Trash |
    > | Set color | | of text || Brown |
    > | Play Sound || Submarine |

    Sorted! :)

    True.
    And what leads you to assume I am using Windows?

    Nothing. I don't. Nor did I. Check what I wrote. :)

    The point being, essentially, that the advice of people who make assumptions may not be correct and therefore safe to follow.

    Good point Leopard, but unless they say otherwise, most are likely using Windows, and anyway further details will often need to be ascertained before the appropriate advice could be offered.

    The latter is precisely the pre-requisite that I was pointing out you had failed to perform! :)

    One to add to the incompetent pile - got one today purportedly from HSBC - usual guff about needing to service the account, and then to start click on the link. Link states "Logon on to internet banking", and obviously when you hover on it you get the usual duff web address which clearly isn't HSBC. What made me laugh however was that the link also had a label which stated "Service your Alliance and Leicester credit card". If anyone gets caught on that one they almost deserve to get ripped off!
