Funny Lloyds Bank e-mail

I had a very official e-mail this morning, asking to confirm various details of my account etc.

I don't have one...

  • no official then. never, NEVER reply to a bank's emails. if in any douby contact the bank yourself either by phone (number from yellow pages etc) or by typing the banks web address in yourself. never click any links from the email

    Phishing scam, do not reply.
Never give account details or passwords in response to an email.
Genuine banks do not operate in this fashion.

I've also had them, I decided to post on here a while back when I got one, in order to warn people and got slaughtered for it. I felt as though I was trying to do the phishing myself.

At least the posters who've replied to this thread have been amenable. The way I look at things is there is always someone who may not be aware of such scams so well done for posting

    Exactly

Some posters think theyre 'above it all' just because theyre aware of such things

  • I too have had one and to be fair, it is the first one for a long time.

    BUT

Because of the way I spam check my emails, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that the email being used to send it to was an address I have only ever used once and that was for an entry in a GQ Magazine competition.

What I don't know is if GQ has sold the address or had a security breach but I do know that they are responsible for me getting this junk.

Do you not think it could be that the domain was targeted with every combination of letters/words by the originators rather than GQ?

In which case I would have gotten loads of emails sent to my domain instead of just one sent to gq.comp@xxxxxxxx.com

I have seen domain based "alphabet" attacks before which is why I now run a whitelist only approach. This keeps all "random" spam at bay.

What do you think the odds of a random email generator comming up with the above and only the above email address?

Forward the email on to this address emailscams@lloydstsb.co.uk and explain the situation to them.

I get loads at work for HSBS, Barclays and LLoyds who I dont have an account with obviously and wouldnt use my works email even if I did.
What gets me is you'd think 'police' in the works address would kinda put them off?!
