OS Daily Thread - Saturday 18th October

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Saturday 18th October. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
everyone!!
patentgirl - Thank you for asking about my friend. I haven't mentioned him much cos of the whole 'less chat' thing but he seems to be Ok.. The recent crisis is over so now it's just time and grabbing as much of it as he can. I feel sorry for his poor wife having to keep him indoors though til he is a bit stronger... I think I help a bit by keeping him distracted for her...lol
bridiej - good to have you back with us
LameWolf - hope you are feeling better today.
Kerriebaby - welcome honey and don't be nervous, we don't bite (well, some of them do...:rotfl: :rotfl: )
N9eav - ooh hope you are not in so much pain now.
sickofhavingnomoney - love the name hon and we would love to have you here with us! Thanks for the tip about Ebay, that is useful to know.
Mioliere and Tired Mum - Please don't stop posting... I would hate for either of you to leave. I think we are all being very careful to add more OS stuff to our posts but I for one still want to hear how everyone is doing with other parts of their lives and have missed the chatter a little.
PennyPin - Honey we are all here for you and I don't think anyone wants you to change being you. You should stay simply because I know you have such good friends here and they all love you and want to support you when you need it.
Made blackberry, raspberry and apple crumble last night - had some apples going wrinkly and raspberries were knocked down. My OH went to Tescos last night and got some Sharon fruit (my absolute faves), and fresh pineapple chunks cheap too so I am in fruit heaven.
Read somewhere on the boards about putting grated carrot into sandwiches to stretch the cheese a little. We did that this lunchtime.. I added mayo and some onion and even my OH enjoyed it! You couldn't really taste the carrot per se, but it was tasty. We also bought block cheese and I grated it and put it into the bag we had the Lidls grated cheese into it as an experiment to see if we carry on using less than if we just cut chunks off the block and grate as and when. (It will probably work, 'cos every time I grate cheese I feel it is cooks perogative to eat the bigger bits of cheese that fall off when you are grating.
:rotfl: )
to all who need them and congrats to anyone who is celebrating today.

Morning Diva and all who follow / cross
I`ve just woken up on the sofa where i must have fallen asleep last night
I went around the house gathering clothes for the washing machine which is now whirring away, i`ve also put the immersion heater on since it`s still economy 7 time as i intend to clean all the floors downstairs today.
The two main things that i would like to do are firstly to alter one pair of curtains and secondly cut down the plants in the greenhouse that are no longer any use, lets see if i manage it or not
The slow cooker needs a bit of a scrub as i fell asleep and left it on all night  the turkey leg and veg has now been on high for four hours and low for ten hours lol, so - anyone worried about leaving it on all day shouldn`t bother. Some of the potatoes have little black tips on the corners that were poking ouy of the liquid but nothing tastes burnt :j
Shopping today is cancelled so we shall be going on Sunday instead, that gives me plenty of time to sort things out as i think that we may do our own store cupboard challenge for a couple of weeks.
N9eav - Hope that your neck is feeing better today
Elona & Catznine - Hope that you are both feeling better today too.
A big welcome to all the new posters recently, hope that you all decide to stay.
Penpin - ((((HUGS)))) for you.
Candygirl - How is your Dad?
I`m off to wander round for a while now so hopefully i shall catch you all later.
Have a good day peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all, BM is whirring away and WM. I've been sorting paperwork into boxes, trying to empty the study, it's taking forever as I have to check every bit. Fed up with it. Managed to get the ironing pile down last night.
I'm going to make the apple braid today and another cake for DD2. She had her scan y/day the nurse couldn't make up her mind about the sex of the baby and seemed to guess that it could be a girl,,,, or a boy...... You don't say!!
I've been reading through and have to agree with many posts about being confused as to what is acceptable to chat about, I seem to delete more than I post. I want to hear of others ups and downs and send congrats or hugs.
I feel a pressure to live in Stepford land, where emotions are frowned upon. It does have a regimental feel at times, or is it just me?
If I had to list only the OS things I do, what boring reading that would be. I too am in two minds whether to continue, I have posted every day so I have tried, but my heart is not in it.
JACKI O, sending a hug for every day untill your op. Then you get 2
SMOKY, try and take it easy this w/end.
A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your DS_party_
Hope everyone has a good week-end.
Just popped back to say Amazon are doing free P&P on a min £5 spend instead of £15, handy for X**s0 -
Morning.
Thanks for the concern over the neck. It's still stiff and a bit annoying at bed time as it hurts to move it on the pillow.
4 days off and nothing much planned. I have a to clear out the shed still, I did advertise some things of which I had plenty of callers but no one come to view yet.
Popped in to ASDA last night for some things. They have some great wine deals on at present. I got 3 Aussie shiraz for £2 a bottle and 3 Californian cabernet at £2.24 each with the 5% off for 6 bottles it came to just under £12 for six. Nice wine too. They have all sorts in there at the £2-3 mark or better wines at 3 for £10
:xmassmile Time to stock up for....dare I say it.....Christmas???:santa2:
Oil is still dropping so I see my heating oil price was down to 38 this weekend, I just hope some basic food stuffs drop too. Meat, bread, milk etc are still too high
Well folks have a nice dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Hello everyone
It's been a while...but I'm back! What has been occurring?? I see people are apologising to dare to say hello or mention anything other than housewo*k or something. Has there been an argument or clamp down or something? Anyway, I don't give two hoots, I'm going to thank as normal and witter on as normal - so there!
My life has gone pear-shaped. Or even more pear-shaped than before. I'm now yet again for the fifth time in four years out of a job. The NHS let me go yesterday as their policy is to not allow already trained and working in the job agency staff (which I was) apply for their jobs when they become properly funded. So that's nice. I spent Thursday doing a handover and was actually given more work to do yesterday at 4.15pm before leaving at 5.00pm. I didn't bother my arrrrrse though, just wrote it on the new chick's "to do" list.
My wee baby Dylan has been very unwell. Before all you mommies out there have palpitations Dylan is a three year old kitty cat. AnnieStar, you will understand me when I say I'm upset. The poor wee fella's colon gave up - the vet showed me the xrays and it looked like there was a very long and overstuffed German sausage in there, so he had an operation for it to be emptied manually. Yes it was full of that smelly stuff (sorry if you're eating nicely browned sausages right now!!!). He's out of hospital now, and I've been encouraging him to go potty. He unfortunately piddled on the sofa, the cheeky little monkey squatted beside me when I was watching Devestation Street last night. But I haven't the heart to be cross, he's been through too much trauma to be shouted at.
Catznine...OMG are you alright?? Big gentle hugs and cuddles to you.
Big hug to MeanMarie - I have been dropping in every now and then to see your reports about Ulick, and am relieved that he's getting the attention he deserves. What your bunch of plonker ministers are doing over health cards is beyond me, but I hope that the care Ulick needs remains available for as long as he needs it.
Tired Mum HUGGGGS to you cos I'm not allowed.
And HUGGGS to Mioliere too cos I'm also not allowed.
Who else wants a huggg....errr SmokeyBabe - I see you're still doing housewo*k - that's more than what Nelski does....hehe a desk fan in every room, eh??? Pink-winged's hot tip is to spray some Mr Sheen around like air freshener about an hour before hubby gets home.
Actually I've been awake half the night...my sleeping patterns did get fairly settled when I was in employment, but they have gone up the spout again. It's probably a mixture of kitty worry stress and out of wo*k stress which is causing me this anxiety. Maybe if I sniff the Stardrops I'll forget things for a while.
Have a lovely Saturday everyone...love hugs and kisses to everyone.

Morning :hello:
I recorded River Cottage the other day, watched it last night. I loved the beetroot ideas. Guess what we DIDN'T grow in the garden this year?
The animals need cleaning out and I need to wash some bedding (king size so I'm not handwashing that) and that's about it.
I've been growing some salad leaves on the windowsill, they're half grown so time to sow some more - I'm trying to keep a supply going through the winter - but I have nowhere to put another pot. I say pot, I actually use the long planters so there's loads growing at once
We're going out for a meal with mr troo's uncle and aunt tonight, they're a screamI've already decided that I'm having gammon and pineapple yummmmmm. They're paying too, just as well cos we've got no money lol.
I am a coffee bean0 -
Good morning Old Stylers :beer:I recorded River Cottage the other day, watched it last night. I loved the beetroot ideas. Guess what we DIDN'T grow in the garden this year?
We haven't watched it yet, either - can't wait to see what he's done with beetroot as I still have a few bulbs left
DH has taken the children to swim club, so I'm going to make some celery, apple and tomato soup, some caramelised onion and cheese bread, and an apple braid :T I might make another batch of butterfly buns, too
DH and I will be doing more shed clearing, then I'll be taking some of the tips on here for housework (especially like blowing away the dust and wafting my coat to remove fluff from the carpet :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: )
Have a great day, Penny x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Good morning all.
Wow, I've managed to do a morning post- shows it's the w/e!
Hi to Lame wolf- thinking of you. Is it chocolate deficiency? Usually works for me (for about 5 mins).
Better stick to OS now I guess. major baking yesterday, including b'day cake for my mum :A , cheesy scones and a roast chicken. Family reunion today, so not much OS going on.
Have great weekend everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:beer:The cow is of the bovine ilk,
One end is moo, the other milk.0 -
Morning everyone
Troo - I still have salad leaves in a pot on the windowsill but wasn't going to put in more seeds as I didn't think they'd grow. I'm not much of a gardener. Now I'll pop some more in. It's great being able to snip a few for sandwiches etc and they are really nice. Mine came from a cheap packet of mixed leaves and this was the first year I've done it. Certainly saves money and is nice to grow your own - even if it's a small amount!
I made a huge pot of spicy squash and lentil stew last night. I've had 2 of those pattypan squashes (look like flying saucers) for ages so I used one of those. I'll freeze it into portions today and it's great for an easy tea after work.
SnowyOwl - hope something comes up in the job market soon. How horrible. Just savour this time of snuggling with little Dylan. I'm glad that the bad stuff is out of him now and that you have him home. Our older dog has been to the vet 3 times this week as her legs were collapsing - had X rays and all clear. Vet thinks she pulled a muscle. We were all set for the bad news - or trying hard to be set for it. I couldn't eat for 2 days. Anyway, she is charging about like mad now and I'm saying 'calm down dear'. Fingers crossed that she stays ok.
WM on with dog bedding. Other than that, something quick and easy for tea later. I might go shopping tonight so I can do some more batch cooking for the freezer tomorrow. Las weekend I bought 2 pack of chicken strips (try to buy from butcher now but needed something 'out of hours'!) and a pack of Morrisons cheap bacon. If you look carefully, you can get packs with good chunks of gammon ends in them. With this I made a pasta dish for 5 of us on Sat night (had left overs) and a big stew type thing on Sun for 3. I chopped up loads of veggies - the courgettes were cut up especially small as no-one likes them).
Hope everyone has a good day. Thinking of those who are having difficulty.

Good Morning All
Hello Snowy - hope Dylan makes a full recovery and that you are back working soon.
Couldnt get to sleep last night so had a lie in this morning, just about the shove the first load of the day into the wm and jump in the shower.
Will also put a loaf of bread on and we will have brunch at 11 when ds comes home from football training. Just remember need to put ribs in the slow cooker.
Other than that it will be a mainly ironing day today which is fine, will take DD to George to see if they have any bras for her, if not will have to go to town tomorrow.
Barbeque ribs with chicken wraps for tea tonight (eating while watching strictly)
Have a great saturday.
x
Troo thanks for the brilliant idea, I loved the salad leaves we grew this summer and they saved me a lot of money. Think will fit in a trip to the garden centre later to get a pot.0
