Recipes with pumpkin??

I would in a seperate pan put a little oil, some chopped garlic if you have it, and onion if you have them... cook for a min or two till onion is glassy. Now add a spoonfull of curry powder and stir for a few mins. I don't add any herbs to mine at all but each to their own
Now adapting to what you already have I would add the onion/garlic mix to the pumpkin and make sure it's stirred through. If you have any then left over boiled potatos and carrots go well...
Make some veg or chicken stock up and add a little. Now liquidise. Add more stock as you go to get a consistency you're happy with. Season to taste and serve hot with either a dollop of fresh whipped cream (is that just me?) or low fat creme fraise and fresh breadDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! well.....i just roasted chunks of the tesco (99p) ultra cheapo pumpkin...it tasted disgusting!!! ..despite using best olive oil and cumin seeds. Very disappointing. I'm wondering if these pumpkins were really just for halloween carvings. It really was inedible.0

Grown for show, not flavour. Get a butternut squash, about the same price, but looks smaller. Not much space taken up by seeds, so a good one will make 6-8 portions.

I was lucky and was given 2 free pumpkins (grown on a National Trust property no less). I cut up the flesh and stew with a little water until mushy. Then I puree it with a stick blender and freeze in 2 cup portions. I add it to muffins. It makes really moist muffins. To disguise the bland flavour add lots of mixed spice or ginger and use dark brown sugar or even maple syrup.0

Just came across this link about pumpkins grown in the UK. States that the UK ones are only good for jack-o-lanterns unfortunately as flesh tastes pretty cac. That's a shame. I've got a big one, yet to do anything with, was going to make soup from it but now I know it's not going be great, I'll just carve it up for the kids. It's a UK grown one. Shame about your roast pumpkin. Here is the link about them...

Have mistakenly tried to eat these things twice now.
Works ok in a pumpkin bread recipe as mush microwaved and then added tot he dough, but anything else forget it.
Was actually quite ill after eating it making the pumpkin curry featured on 'Rhodes Across India' and ended up with deli belly for 2 days solid.
Basically don;t buy for food. Can't even roast the seeds as they don't eat well either.so says another ordinary mug fighting the 1% who own the political machine grinding them down from on high...

There are many varieties of pumpkin and they aren't all tasteless. Mine are lovely -bright orange and a good flavour. Try it and see.0

States on the above link that anything larger than 8 inches across is only fit for carving into Jack-o-Lanterns. Get small ones and they should taste ok. Butternut squash soup is good, roast it in the oven and blitz with some spices and some veg stock. Tasty.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. awwww, have got 2 huge ones in the garage ready for a Halloween Party my sis is having in Sat.
I offered to buy them & carve them because I knew she would waste the middle!
Does everyone think that its not worth using the middle for anything?
I really haven't got the time to waste if its going to taste like cack
On the subject of Butternut squash I am addicted to the stuffI roast the squash whole and then just peel of the skin and take out the middle. ITs scrumptious
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
thing is... i bought this pumpkin to actually eat, not for the kids to carve..and tesco didn't have any sign up saying 'just for carving...tastes rank'!! I think it's a bit misleading of tesco.
This pumpkin wasn't just bland...it was bitter and bland and really yuk...i'm not going to risk using it in anything apart from the compost heap!0
